Double Arch is Double Fun !!
Nov 2021
We felt this area of Arches National Park was the most special. They call this the Windows area and there are plenty of windows of large and small windows that show the various arches. The double arch is so surreal and you get to walk right up to it and actually climb in it.

Double the fun

Double Arch is reached by walking the Easy half-mile (roundtrip) Double Arch Trail.

Old-timers may know Double Arch by its previous names: Double Windows, Twinbow Bridges and The Jug Handles. Fans of Stephen Spielberg may recognize it as the backdrop for the opening scene of "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade."

These arches are an example of pothole arches (arches formed by water erosion from above rather than from the side.) The larger arch in Double Arch is 104 feet high and 148 feet wide, making it the park's tallest opening and second-longest span.

TIP:

* If you park in the first parking lot you come to here (the one closest to North Window, South Window and Turret Arch), you might want to repark in the second lot when you're ready to hike to Double Arch. You'll save footsteps -- but risk losing a parking spot!

Nice, easy climb to pretty double arch.

Pretty view. Half mile hike if you start in the second parking lot. If you park in the first lot (upper lot but first one you come to on one way road in) you are closer to the windows hike. We did what you should do in this very busy park and took the first spot we saw, which was in the first lot. Since it was rainy, we decided to skip the one mile hike to the windows and instead, climbed down the steps to the lower second lot to the trailhead to the double arch. Lots of folks climbed into and all over the arches but we had a great view for photos at the end of the dirt path and did not venture further in the rain on the wet rocky path leading to under the arches.

Great parking

We didn't want to do the long hike to Delicate Arch, so we did the Windows trail and double arch instead. You can get some great photos and they are easy to get to from one parking spot. And there are restrooms here.

Not a long hike
Sep 2021
Only a short hike to the arches. Not too many people there. You can get to it from the windows parking lot, but there is also another parking lot right there at the arch.

Unique and worth visiting. If you are not up to 3 hours hiking for the delicate arch, this is a much easier 5 minute stairs climb from the parking in the park.

Double Arch

Great photos & easy walk from the parking area. From the parking area you'll be able to access the Double Arch and a few other sights. Depending on the time of day parking can be tricky. Wear your sunblock/bring a hat. It's a full sun walk to get to the Double Arch and then shaded under the arches.

Spectacular Beauty!
Apr 2021
The description ("Arch which requires a 4.2-mile hike through challenging terrain").at the top of this page describing Double Arch is INCORRECT. That description applies to Double O Arch, not Double Arch. Next to Delicate Arch, Double Arch is the most beautiful arch in the park. It is a short easy hike (about 1/4 mile one way) from the parking lot. It shares the same parking lot as the Windows arches (another short easy hike). Neither should be missed.

Another Arches Must-See
Jun 2021
A favorite in Arches NP - if you are able to get a parking spot, keep it and hike it. On one side is the amazing Double Arches and on the other the Windows and Turret Arch. Keep hydrated and wear proper shoes! There are restrooms near the parking area as needed. The Double Arch is one of the most spectacular works of nature that I've ever seen. You can climb up higher into the Arch, if you wish, but I opted to sit in the shade for a tad since it was "spicy" out, as my kid would say.

A beauty just before sunset.

Loved seeing the arch, it was a warm day in June but the park is open 24/7 so it you go late in the day, the sun is not beating down on you and you can avoid the crowds.
