We were up and down this 200 ft elevation fairly quickly. It is fairly steep and traction is poor at spots. Beautiful view and great place to visit. Badlands are fantastic. Don't miss it.

This trail is very, very steep even though is is not that long. It is doable and worth the time it takes to get to the top for the incredible views. From there, we decided to do the Castle/Medicine trail loops. Was well worth it......was...More

The initial hike up is steep but doable and the views along the way are worth it. The trail connects with others at the top so you can make a good walk out of it. It's not a trail you'd want to do in wet...More

The ranger said this was a steep climb and she was right. Part of a longer hike we took. This got us access to Castle and Medicine Root Trails. By itself Saddle Pass is not too much, nice views from too.

Although Saddle Pass Trail is short, about 0.5 mile round trip, it is the most strenuous hike at Badlands National Park due to its steepness, rapidly changes in elevation, loose footings, slippery ground, and heat. It is especially unbearable in the summer months. Therefore, it...More

I did the hike up Saddle Pass, then came back down. The hike was more impressive than the view to me. Being up close to the Badlands formations was a unique aspect of the hike and the formations vary from Notch trail. The view at...More
