After visiting dozens of National Park Visitor Centers, we can say that the Ben Rafel Visitor Center at Badlands National Park is one of the better ones we have been to. The exhibits tell the story of the natural history of the Badlands over millions...More

This is a typical Visitor's Center with the usual souvenirs and walking tour of the park within the building. It shows the evolution of the park. The staff were okay and we didn't ask them for assistance. This is also a good place to take...More

The ranger at the desk was so helpful and informative - he explained all the different types of horns on the animals (bison, big horn, pronghorn, elk, deer) and let our son hold them all. Very patient. He also made recommendations for our drive through...More

Exhibits are OK, but don't seem to do justice the grandeur of the park. The movie is good. Staff friendly and helpful (even provided some Band-Aids for us to cover a small cut).

Not too different from any similar unit but obviously particular to The Badlands. We visited whilst driving the Loop but the Centre was at the end of our drive. However we still learned a few things from visiting and wish we had come the other...More

Made a quick stop here to use the restroom and check out Tee shirts. No matter what though make sure to check out Badlands, so many amazing views. Mountain goats and even a couple bighorn sheep right next to the road.

The Ben Reifel Visitor Center was a good stop to make. A film plays every 30 minutes that gives you a background and a better understanding of the Badlands. There are also several interesting exhibits showing life in the Badlands. Visit a Fossil Preparation Lab...More

Fairly small with excellent film, educational exhibits, gift shop, rest rooms, and helpful rangers. Fantastic picture taking pan aroma from this stop. No food, but food available at next stop going West. Helps make the drive more educational and enjoyable.

It depends on how much you want to explore. We spent at least an hour just in the visitor's center. If you hike and what to see everything at least a day to a day and a half.

Not sure but I think about 1957 and it was reopened after a remodel with 95 new exhibits in 2006.
