At this point, the Black Canyon is so deep the Empire State Building could stand within it and scarcely reach 3/4 of the way to the top. Graphics illustrating this fact reveal the extraordinary depth of the canyon compared to man-made things that we consider 'tall'. The 'painted' stripes on the wall exhibit how fluid this patch of rock has... More

Stunning vistas of the canyon, river and the incredible designs on the canyon walls. Really looks as if the walls were painted with a giant paintbrush.

Awesome photo opportunity. The walk is - like 90% of the walks in this park - very short. So don't be discouraged by the fact you have to get out of the car ;)

Incredible Geology as part of Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. Take about 2-3 hours to tour this park on the South Rim Road.

I think I may be spoiled. I've done pretty extensive traveling out west. Indiana may be where I live, but my heart is out west! That being said, the area they call the painted wall is pretty, but doesn't compare to other sites out west.

Beautiful place. I hope to return some day with my son. Breathtaking views of the Canyon. This was better than the Grand Canyon.

One of the prettier overlooks in the park, but then again they are all nice. Lots of ideas on how this came about but that is all they are, ideas, as no one was their to witness it.

This pullout is yet another along the paved road that will offer you an amazing view of natural geological formations. Take your time to stop here and admire the scenes in front of you.

This is a pretty nice place to stop along the route. It isn't anything that you'll remember for the rest of your life, but it takes about 5 minutes to stop and look out at the wall, and it would be a shame to miss this.

Literally takes your breath away. I spent more time on this trail and at this lookout than any of the others.
