We drove to Elephant Hill and parked our car there. From there we did the hike to Chesler park. It was stunning! The views never ceased to be beautiful and the cairns clearly marked the route. The 6 mile hike took us about 4 hours from the carpark and back. The scenery was magical as if we were walking on... More

We drove down to the Needles section of Canyonlands NP from Moab on our third day in the area. Looking back, it was a long drive from Moab, and with only 4 days in Moab it was not entirely worth the trip - unless you have seen all there is to see in the Moab area. The hikes were nice,... More

We have been going to the Canyonlands every year for our kid's spring break. Needles District is a bit further away, but is so much less crowded. Gripe about the extra 30 miles from Moab and we don't want to see you down here! The basic hikes are fun and the hikes to Chessler and Druid Arch epitomize canyon country.... More

Canyonlands National Park is divided into separate districts. The Needles district is in the southeast corner of the park, about 75 miles southwest of Moab. The name "Needles" refers to the distinctive rock spires of Cedar Mesa sandstone that are found here. There are two paved roads into The Needles (both turn west off US191): the main entrance which is... More

A bit out of the way but worth every mile! Must do the pothole trail, super easy and life changing views! In the winter the fee booth is closed. I had the whole park to myself! I saw maybe two other vehicles in the two hours I was in the park. This likely contributed to my soulful experience. Do not... More

not nearly as much traffic and people as the Canyonlands North entrance, but we really enjoyed the quiet walks we did there and the rangers were so helpful in pointing out walks for us to take.

Long drive from Moab, Long hikes and not much else when you get there. If you're a hiker its a must-do, Reccomend Lost Canyon but be aware the loop route is about 11 miles long as it is 2 trails joined, but a Great Hike!

This section of Canyonlands is definitely worth a visit, but it clearly is favored by the backpackers, mountain bikers, serious hikers, and four wheelers. That doesn't mean that you should avoid a visit if you are one of more modest ambition. You'll find a stop at the visitors center worthwhile for some tips commensurate with your interests. We recommend a... More

Long scenic drive to get to and from the (distant) viewpoint. Not really worth it. Did not feel up to a long hike. Should have gone to the needles overlook off Route 191 instead and had more time at Arches.

We were on our way from Hovenweep to Arches, and stopped here on the way. The Needles area of Canyonlands is the less visited part of the park. It is a long way off the main highway which is Hwy 191 but we thought worth the effort. We read some reviews that did not think much of this part of... More
