The trail (lots of steps) was short and sweet and bat cave and other lookouts were a nice addition. I can imagine the view on Chimney Rock to be pretty in the spring when everything is green. The park was well maintained, pretty, and under construction. It was a great stop on our long road trip. Thank you to the... More

We did this hike late afternoon on the way back to our hotel. It's quite short but strenuous at times. Fantastic views and a great overlook over Chimney Rock. You will need sensible shoes and plenty of water.

We loved this hike, but be prepared with plenty of water and keen eyes. It's a steep climb and I don't find this parks trails particularly well marked so watch for cairns. The view from the top is just beautiful and the chimney is glorious. The red rocks glisten in the sun and the sky is an incredible blue. I... More

We hiked this trail on the recommendation of the visitor center. Spectacular views, so this is a must for visitors to Capitol Reef.

It is nice to climb up the trail to the height of Chimney Rock, and have an impressive view from above. The rest of the trail is not so interesting.

My husband & I got to Capitol Reef in the afternoon but we were spending the night in Torrey and going back the next day, so we knew we had lots of time. Since Chimney Rock in one of the first trails in the park, we decided to do that when we arrived. It's not a real hard trail and... More

This was our first of about 7 trails in this park. There were two other cars at the trailhead, but we ran into no one on the trail, which was well marked.

We wanted to finish the afternoon with one more longer hike after doing Cassidy Arch and Fremont River trails earlier that same day. It was 1PM, hot as heck, and the sun was glaring, but we decided to go for Chimney Rock Loop and relax for the rest of the afternoon. Being that it is a 3.6 mile loop, on... More

If you hike for the views (like I do), then this trail is right up your alley. We went on a 22 degree day in January when the red rock was lightly dusted with snow and it was sooooo pretty. The hike is moderately difficult, but worth every step for the beautiful scenery.
