This is a moderate/strenuous hike all the way up. We did the loop trail. Well worth it. The views are breathtaking. This also gave us a good idea of other places we wanted to see on our visit. Amazing!!!

My girlfriend and I only had a half day to enjoy the park and chose this trail after speaking with the rangers. A fairly easy trek in and out with some nice elevation changes. Be prepared for strong winds along the ridge line and hold...More

This is a short but fairly steep hike to the best views in Capitol Reef National Park. It pays to get on the trail either early or late in the day. Sunset is the best time because you will be blown away by the Cathedral...More

This is a 3.6 (I thought it was nearer 4) mile loop with almost 600 feet in change of elevation. Most of this 600 feet comes in the first mile. It was quite breezy at the plateau even thought almost no wind at the trailhead....More

Probably the best time to hike is in the afternoon when the sun is to your back to the Chimney Rock so that you can get the best pictures. We went in the morning and we still got some nic photos.

Awesome trail, but I highly recommend starting early in the morning so there is no problem with parking. It is one of the most popular trails, the parking lot fills up early. Besides, if you start early, you beat the crowds and the heat!

The Chimney Rock Trail is located along the western end of Route 24 in Capital Reef National Park. There is a carpark directly off the road where you find the trailhead. This is a challenging, 3.6 mile loop trail that makes a strenuous ascent up...More

We only did the first part of the loop due to time constraints but there were great views all around! Would like to come back to do this hike in its entirety!

This loop trail offers great views of its namesake rock formation plus Spring Canyon. Most of the elevation gain occurs in the first part of the trail.

The trail (lots of steps) was short and sweet and bat cave and other lookouts were a nice addition. I can imagine the view on Chimney Rock to be pretty in the spring when everything is green. The park was well maintained, pretty, and under...More
