A short drive along a dirt road with exciting cliff faces and bulging overhangs leads to another nice easy trail. Well worth making the effort.

Driven this with my teens and they were amazed at the height of the walls. It's like driving a slot canyon, and when it's 100degrees, I'd much rather enjoy it with AC.

My wife read something about the Pioneer Register and wanted to go see.it. We spoke to the Rangers and headed out for Capitol Gorge Trail. What an amazing adventure. You start out by driving to the trail head, about 2 miles on dirt "road" between...More

Biggest challenge on this in-and-out hike is the soft sand. Great for those who want to see into a canyon without a lot of stress. There is a short boulder climb for the tanks but we didn't do that. Even though this is an easy...More

This road was amazing. I was so glad that they let us drive it and see the gorge. This was one of my favorite places in all seven National parks we visited in two weeks. Out of the ordinary. You drive on a rutted dirt...More

Getting to this trailhead requires you to drive down an unpaved road for about 10 minutes, it gets a little bumpy. Once there the trail is a rather easy flat trail through a slot canyon the goes about a mile to The Tanks. Along the...More

This was a fun hike/walk for the kids in our party. They explored a lot of the rocks and crevices along the way.

When we arrived at the Visitor Center there was a sign noting that the Capitol Gorge Trail was closed that day due to potential flash flooding. We had seen storm clouds during our travels to the park that day so it wasn't surprising news but...More

Exercise caution if weather is approaching - flash floods can severely impact your visit. The massive scale of the place is difficult to describe and it's so beautiful. Pretty much any vehicle can make it to the parking area, but I would recommend a high...More

You can see Capitol Gorge a few ways, but if you drove this far, commit to the park and HIKE THE REST OF THE WAY. Take plenty of water and earn the splendor of this amazing part of the park.
