The hike is very easy. You need to pay attention to the walls to see the old writings. Also, you need to pay attention where you are walking so you do not trip. I think the best part is early sections. As you keep walking,...More

This is a wall on the Capitol Gorge Trail that is a record of travelers and settlers from the 1800's through to the early 20th century. Now a days this is considered as vandalism and you face a $300 fine for writing on the rocks,...More

One of the interesting things to see along the Capital Gorge Trail is the Pioneer Register, which is a stretch of sandstone wall where early travellers recorded their names after passing through the gorge. Here you can make out names and dates from the 1880s...More

We hiked in this area and were astounded by the Register. Interesting these markings were still there and some are so high up too. Finding names and dates was so much fun. Be sure to see this area when you visit the park.

Pity about this place is that the trail on which it is to be found offers little else (Capitol Gorge). The register itself is pretty neat and nice to see it hasn't been vandalized like for example the cliff in Guernsey.

Easy hike, flat, partially shady. At first we thought it was recent graffiti, but someone told us it was the Pioneer Register. When, we stopped to look, it was actually very interesting!

Apparently it used to be a river - at least it was completely dry when I was there and a beautiful hike. Tall red rock walls with some greenery.

We missed it on the way out but were able to find it on the way back. It's kind of a cool piece of history, but doesn't hold much significance to us since we are not native-Utahns. The trail it's located on is only okay.
