We hiked the Caverns around lunch on a Sunday, it was still very busy. We opted for the “natural entrance hike” which is a gradual but steep 750’ descend into the cavern floor. It is very pretty but unfortunately due to the large & natural...More

America has some of the best caves in the world, and Carlsbad is definitely no exception. There's not much in the way of a review that hasn't been days a 1000 times already except: go ahead and buy your annual National Parks pass. It pays...More

My wife and myself, both seniors, took a tour of the caverns. Caverns are well marked and pathways are excellent. We walked the entire big room in about 1 hour. The caverns are fantastic. Afterwords there is a great gift shop and cafe. The cavern...More

Stopped while passing thru Carlsbad, plenty of parking. Was with Jax the dog, but temps are 55 so I didn’t use dog kennels in the side of building. I walked into cavern, as there is and elevator to take you down and back up. 750...More

Go during mid-winter months, less people parking is great!we had almost up front parking easy access. Tickets were pretty cheap too 12 $ for adults and children under 15 were free.

Taking the Natural Entrance to the Caverns was one of the greatest experiences of my life. Going early in the morning and off season was the way to go as, while descending the 750 vertical feet over 1.25 miles of dimly lit caverns, it was...More

My family and I went on MLK day and loved it. We have a 6 year old and 8 month old. No strollers allowed so we wore a carrier for the baby. Walking up to the cave was just amazing. It's like nothing I've ever...More

Definitely recommend visiting Carlsbad Caverns as well as hiking in through the natural cave entrance. It is quite a steep descent and is approximately 1.25 miles into the cavern. It is paved though it is not extremely smooth. The stalactites and stalagmites are just beautiful....More

The natural entrance route is the perfect way to enter Carlsbad Caverns--and to exit as well, if you are reasonably fit. When you enter the caverns this way, they kind of unfold/reveal themselves to you gradually, each few switchbacks revealing a new view and another...More

Hello, it really depends on the time of day. We went towards the ladder part of the hours and our wait was 1 hour long. Towards the very last part of the day, your wait can be even longer. I hope that helps.

I believe it was a 1.5 mile walk down to where the elevator is. It would be a steep trek back up.
