After my fourth visit, Carlsbad Caverns continues to leave me awestruck. A true wonder of nature. Changes have been made over the years to improve access; I hope that the caverns are not too easily accessible as the impact of visitors is evident. Volunteers worked in the big room to remove coins and other objects from pools. Caverns are lit... More

Something everyone should see. I think the drive in to the park was unique. It is different than the rest of the desert around it. A bunch of hills with cactus and brush. Enchanting and surreal in some ways. Pros The bat flight is worth seeing, even though wet did not see it this trip. It only runs for part... More

We did the walk down 750 vertical feet looking at the formations. Have strong legs. Have stronger ones if you choose to then walk up [not for me.] After the hour trip down, you can do an additional hour in the second part of the cavern. There's a café down at the bottom along with a few trinkets. The main... More

My 20 year old son and I entered at the Natural Entrance on a cool February day. It was steep and I could see how it could be considered strenuous but we didn't have any problems. It wasn't too crowded and we stopped wherever we wanted. After we did the 1 1/3 mile natural entrance tour, we did the Big... More

We have been in many caves over the years but this one tops them all. Entering at the natural entrance really gives you a feel of entering a cave. The trail switchbacks for a long distance as you descend, giving you many opportunities to see how far down you are going. It is much easier to hike down and take... More

We did the self guided tour of he caverns. All I can say is AMAZING!. This is a must do. I can't really add anymore. All the formations were well lit and just awesome. If you are in the area then GO. If you are close by the area then GO BObK

You start this trip where the bat program is each night, Once you get into the cave you well notice the new lighting that makes parts of the cave stand out. Remember it's easier to walk down into the cave (down hill) than out of the cave

Even though we're over 65 and were warned it was strenuous, we decided to walk in via the natural entrance. At the time, I didn't have any problems. However, it's now 3 days later, and we're still paying the price. Very sore calf, shin and glute muscles! You're basically walking down a steep walkway for about an hour. If I... More

Carlsbad is amazing! There are easy and not-so easy ways to enjoy the caverns. With mild exertion enter through the natural entrance and make your down into the depths of the caverns. There are different levels of touring the caverns. I recommend them all. Then, as the sun is setting, leave and take a seat by the natural entrance to... More

The whole experience was very much enjoyed, especially as I was fearing over-commercialisation. It was easy to imagine man first coming across a huge cave entrance, then gradually exploring the inner recesses, eventually opening up to such an awesome cavern. We were told by the custodian that it was an 80 floor hike down, we thought he was joking. He... More
