We arrived early on a week day morning. Since we had been on a very long hike the previous day, we took the elevator down into the cave instead of the natural entrance hike. We had the whole place to ourselves. We saw maybe 3...More

This National Park is one that I've bypassed several times on my way elsewhere. This time, we programmed it into our trip planning, and so glad we did. I've visited a few caverns in my life, but never seen anything like this. Let me say...More

A more-than-five-mile trek into and out of Carlsbad Caverns took my wife and me several hours to complete, but it seemed like only 20 minutes. Yes, our visit of the caverns was truly that engaging. The rock formations are dramatically highlighted and varied in size,...More

I’ve see other beautiful caves, but Carlsbad Cavern is the largest I’ve been in and treats the visitor to new beauty and wonder around each corner. You can take the elevator down 750 feet to the cave’s “big room”, but if you can handle the...More

Carlsbad Caverns National Park is the main attraction in the Carlsbad area. It is worth it to come in the summer and get to visit the ranger guided tours not available to audio or self guided guests. Reservations well in advance are recommended. It is...More

First of all, the Carlsbad Caverns are a destination. It is an all day affair. Aside from the small town of Carlsbad, there is not much around. We really wanted to take the Kings Palace tour, but staying an hour away in Artesia we weren't...More

The first time I wisited this place was in the mid 60’s. It was great to go back again. Much more of the cave is open now and it is self guided. You can either walk into the cave, about 1.2 miles going down hill...More

The size & scope of this cavern is unbelievable. You really can't imagine just how deep & big it is until you are there.

Yes and I would bring the wheelchair. They have a elevator you can use to go down and back up to the Big room area. It is too steep to walk down and takes about an hour. You will enjoy it. While your there the restaurant in... More

I wasn't aware of those tours. We did the complete walking tour. You enter from the outside and see parts of the cave that those who take the elevator do not. We thought that was the best.
