Better parks out there, but lovely views
Your visit to Crater Lake will vary greatly depending on the season. I visited in early May. During this time, you drive up through tunnels of deep snow to a sparsely visited park on the south side of the lake. You can more or less just get some views near the gift shop and down by the lodge. Most everything is snowed in. For example, the snow pack you walk on is up to the third floor observation deck on the restaurant. This does offer some beautiful snowy views that you cannot get in the summer. It also offers the benefit of driving up free of snow on the roads, despite the snow pack being all around you. The lake is lovely, but I simply cannot recommend it on the same tier as other great National Parks like Olympic or Rainier to the north and Redwoods to the south. Even in the summer, I can't imagine there is enough here to meet the level of those other nearby parks. Lovely views, but limited scope of variety here.

What you expect is what you get
If you’re going to see Crater Lake, then that’s what you get. Spectacular natural feature and worth seeing. The geological explanation graphics at the Rim Village were a little sparse and could use a creative update. Before and after effects with a map of ash flow depths and extent would be nice-get on it USGS.

Spectacular views of a beautiful lake
Unless you stay in the national park, you may be traveling more than an hour to get to this national park. But it is well worth it. The views at and near Rim Village are spectacular. The lake itself and its backdrop are simply stunning. Entrance fee is $30 or you can buy the annual pass to all national parks for $80. Most likely there will be a traffic jam and you may take 30 minutes or more to gain entry into the park. But once again, it is well worth it. Probably best to bring a picnic and your own supplies because the shops and restaurants are quite expensive. Even in late June, there was snow on the ground and some of the rim roads around the lake were closed. Also, bring insect repellent, especially to deal with the annoying mosquitoes.

    Simply beautiful
We came to the park in late June and the boats were not open year and the rim road was not open to car travel yet. But, we were still about the hike the rim and just enjoy relaxing while taking in the lake. It’s just so peaceful and relaxing here.

    Gorgeous Lake
My husband and I absolutely loved our visit to Crater Lake NPS. We did the Cleetwood Cove Trail so we could go down and touch the water (no way was I jumping in, it was way too cold even in July) and that was probably the busiest section of the park. Our first arrival day we got there about 4:30 PM and the entire park was empty. We did encounter a TON of mosquitos though and they were REALLY bad. We got a lot of bites so please wear layers and bring bug spray. When we went back the following morning it was busier but still not too bad compared to other national parks we’ve been to. I think it helped that we were there during the week and went the day after the 4th of july.

Its a check list National Park
Crater lake national park is very nice. The lake is stunning. So many colors of blue and reflections. They have two different areas with general stores. Bathrooms and parking. There are a few nice drives just follow the maps. And enjoy the views.

    Must see
There was no line to get into the park. We paid $30 entrance fee. The views are amazing on all stop. There are a lot of apportunity to take a postcard like photo. The best part was our hike down to Cleetwood Cove Trail. It took 15 min to go down and 20 min to go back up. There are bedrocks to sit on and lots of area to dip in the water. The water was really cold but we are able to take a swim. Be ware of slippery rocks. We saw lot of people slipping and falling. A must see when your in the area.

    The Most Beautiful Blue Water
There are no words to accurately describe the beauty of this lake. The blue color of the water is unlike any blue I have ever seen. Parking at the visitor center can be tricky, but if you get there early, you should be ok. We only had 1 day in the park, so we drove around the rim and stopped at all the view points. Sadly, they were not running the boat tours yet.

    Snowy in April
Visited Crater Lake April 17, 2023. Beautiful but a LOT of snow! Needed to use snowshoes just to climb up from the parking lot near the lodge. Winds were very strong that day. Still a wonderful experience!

National Park # 30 did not disappoint
Wow is all I can really say about Crater Lake. From our first view of the lake to the last nothing really compares to this place. We Hiked multiple trails and went to every overlook we could. (unfortunately the East Rim was closed due to redoing the road). But everything about the lake is amazing and I think we took about 200 pictures of the lake and surrounding areas. This is definitely a must do National park and one that will be vastly different than any other one.

We came in mid-June and unfortunately for us, most of the park was still closed due to heavy snow still on the roads. But, we did come up to the visitor's center and take in the views of the lake, and drove to Discovery Point, which was the only place on the drive that was open.
We were the only ones in the park when we first arrived, infact I assume there is an entrance fee to get in (I do have an America the Beautiful pass), but when we came up to the guard shack, it was unmanned so we just continued on through. After about 2 hours of being there, the park did start to see some more crowds of people, and by the time we left, there was a long line of people trying to get in, so my advice would be to come early and avoid that crowd.
The Lake itself is mesmerizing to look at. The blue hue of the lake is like nothing I've ever seen, and I've seen lots of beautiful alpine lakes in my time. Definitely worth the visit. I don't know that it tops the charts of my favorite national parks, but we were limited with what we were able to do because of the road closures. We spent about 2 hours in the park, which seemed sufficient for not being able to do much.

It’s a beautiful drive to Crater lake, it’s beautiful when you’re there! There was so much snow it was a cold magical winter wonderland. You can only get to Rim Village but that’s ok because you have full view of the lake!
We weren’t prepared for the low temps so we popped into gift shop and got gloves. Very reasonably priced.

So happy we went. And will go again. Everyone needs to see it. It’s just beautiful.

Spectacular visit! The park is very well maintained. Visitor's center, restrooms, signage explaining the history of the area--all on point.

Beautiful drive through national forests to get here - worth it. Check weather before traveling here. Spend 2-3 hours soaking in the beauty and volcanic history.

We went there to see Crater Lake and see the Annular eclipse. The lake and park are so beautiful! There was a little snow on the ground but the roads were clear. The day of the eclipse the weather did not cooperate and we saw about 4 seconds near totality and that was it

This place is one the most beautiful places on this planet that I've seen in my 25 yrs of travel. The blue color of the lake is unbelievable, its mesmerizing, breathtaking and you can't help but just to look at it in awe. I first did the rim drive, the first day was a little smoky due to the fires that were going on but the next day it was completely clear so I got different photo opportunities. There is a lecture that is given by a geologist near the visitor center/gift shop on timed intervals. He gave a great presentation and provided alot of information. The only drawback of the place is its in the middle of nowhere but soooo worth the drive. I recommend staying in prospect as a base if you're staying more than one day.

It's ok if it is your first time, but not really worth the high entrance fee. It's lacking in restrooms., and the visitor center is pretty small and crowded. The rim road was under construction, but we didn't know that until we drove half way around the lake. The views were nice, but I don't think I would visit again.

Totally amazing views from most any viewpoint. You can't currently make the circle drive because part of the East Rim Drive is closed for construction. But even though you have to double back, the drive from the lodge to the north entrance on West Rim Drive, and from the lodge as far as the Phantom Ship viewpoint on East Rim Drive are certainly worthwhile.
