Stunning Views

Absolutely beautiful views, outstanding, well worth going. Sapphire blue waters trapped in this enormous crater. The drive around the rim is an absolute must do.

WIZARD ISLAND takes the form of a small volcano, with a tiny caldera, situated in the middle of a humongous volcano, known as Mount Mazama which has a humongous caldera, known as Crater Lake. The tiny caldera on Wizard Island does not contain any pond of its own. Wizard Island is actually not anywhere near the middle of Crater Lake.... More

Another product of the collapse super volcano Mount Mazama is Wizard Island. Located on the west side of Crater Lake, the island was formed as a cinder cone. Another pristine and beautiful component of the geological event it is easily viewed from outside the cafe'. Stretching nearly 7000' up it is covered in pines. It is majestic against the sapphire... Our tour of Crater Lake was not only breath taking, the history of the area was fascinating! We went the entire perimeter of the lake and stopped in a couple of visitor centers - food not so great so pack a lunch!

Unfortunately when we were visiting the boat trips to the island were not operating, but I would definitely go if they were. It would give a unique view of the crater from inside it.

At the park there is a boat tour that stops at Wizard Island which, if you have a few hours is well worth the time. The hike down and more importantly back up from the lake surface where the boats are is a bit strenuous but pleasant enough. If you visit Crater Lake go for the whole ball of wax... More

Wizard Island is a cinder cone and predominate feature in Crater Lake. We were unable to take the boat to the island due to recent knee surgery. The route to get to the landing is a 1-mile trail from the rim to the water. There are numerous viewpoints around the rim to get a great view of the island. Merriam... More

Wizard Island is the big island in the middle of Crater Lake in Crater Lake National Park. My husband and I visited Crater Lake National Park on a Sunday. The water is a beautiful blue in the lake and around the Wizard Island. Be aware Crater Lake National Park is extreme crowded on the weekends, even in September. Rim Drive... More
