The road had just recently opened to the Toklat area, but the scenery and animal sightings were spectacular. We saw a moose with calf, a grizzly bear with cub, caribou with lamb, Dall sheep with calves, a couple of porcupines, willow ptarmigan, and ground squirrels...More

Great way to see Denali...but be mindful, the entire road isn't open early in the season. When we were there we couldn't go as far as I would have liked. Was able to see wildlife along the way.

Park buses have improved, and we had a pretty good ride through the rough, winding road of the park. Saw moose, herds of caribou, golden eagles, 2 grizzlies, marmots, ground squirrels. 4 hrs to Eielson Visitor Center was enough and the ride back for 4...More

It's an amazing road, but long and very boring in spots. If your guide is keen eyed, and you're lucky, you can see bear, deer, Dali sheep, caribou, and more. Or not. It's totally a crap shoot. Seeing Denali is very iffy - totally depends...More

With the Eielson bus taking 8 hours round trip, that means it takes 4 hours to go 66 miles? If we want to do a full day hike from Eielson center, does that mean we have to sit on a bus for 4 hours to begin the day?

Yes. It'll be about 4 hours one way but there are rest stops during the way. Pack more food than you think and bring water.

Does the shuttle replace the tours or do you need to do both the shuttle and a bus tour.
