Came here during the Howe Ridge fire in Aug 2018, after visiting the Polebridge Mercantile for some much-needed pastries. The road to Bowman's was quite bumpy (our car was covered in dust by the end of it), and we were a little concerned our little...More

You've got to want to visit Bowman Lake to go there. About 44 miles, mostly dirt, to Polebridge then 6 rough (high clearance recommended) narrow miles to lake. Watch out in morning when day visitors are heading in and campers are heading out. But it's...More

During off-season it is a very quiet and tranquil place. Good for hiking and just admiring the beauty. Water is clear and cool. Definitely off the beaten path.

We spent some time walking on the trail by the lake. The road to get there is unpaved, rough, and dusty. It is worth a quick stop at the Polebridge Mercantile to feel like you've stepped back in time. The bakery there is good too.

Bowman Lake is beautiful and we saw a deer. But unless you are camping, don’t bother. The 6 mike gravel road from Polebridge is very rough, dusty, and slow going. It’s narrow so getting past oncoming traffic is tricky.

The road from Polebridge to Bowman Lake is gravel with some muddy holes. There are many areas where the gravel is in regular piles like the surface of an old washboard. That requires lower speeds, but there are also some holes that will cause people...More

We did just fine on the dirt and rough paved roads from Apgar to Bowman with a fully loaded Mazda 3 - no high clearance whatsoever. The road is bumpy and dusty, sometimes better, sometimes worse, but no problem. They've been working on the Polebridge...More
