We visited both the Apgar and Lake McDonald Lodge areas during our trip to the park. We took the boat ride from the lodge ten years ago and we decided to do it again this year. It was worth it both times. You'll either have...More

Lake McDonald is on the west end of Going to the Sun Road, which follows the south shore of the lake for about 9 miles. There are places to pull over and view the lake, or one can stop at Lake McDonald Lodge (food, boat...More

This gorgeous lake is the largest in Glacier NP and you can't really miss it if you enter through the West Glacier entrance of the park. Make some time to go kayaking and get out on the lake!

The views from this area of Glacier National Park were spectacular! They made the long drive worth every minute.

Years ago I hiked in around the shores of Lake McDonald to camp, it was worth it just to avoid the crowds and have the opposite lakeshore to yourself.

We arrived to Lake McDonald during forest fire and we rode on the last boat before all boat line closed. We saw helicopter pouring chemical to stop fire from boat. Eagle nests on trees. The lake is beautiful especially during sunset time.

It is cooler during the day, cold to freezing at night usually. If its clear and cool the fall colors in the foliage are wonderful. There is a chance of snow in the park at higher elevations. We love October up here. You... More
