This was a fairly easy hike with lots to see along the way. Huge trees, deer, vistas with beautiful falls and water. Avalanche Lake at the end is beyond beautiful and well worth the hike. I hiked in May so the trail being crowed was not an issue.

This is our favorite hike on the West Side, but its by no means as good as what you will hike at Logan Summit, Many Glacier or Two Medicine later in your trip. The Trail of the Cedars hike at the front end is easy and goes through some seriously big, beautiful beautiful trees with a ferny, mossy forest floor.... More

The Avalanche Creek hike is pretty easy and the reward is stunning views. The downside is the trail may be congested during the summer.

This was a great hike in GNP that wasn't terribly busy the day we went. We enjoyed the variety of scenery that we saw as the hike progressed and did not find this hike to be challenging. We loved emerging at the lake and sitting down to enjoy a picnic lunch taking in the view prior to making the trek... More

There really are many great hikes in GNP and this is one of them. It is very popular and not too strenuous. The trail is very well maintained and easy to follow. Bring some water to drink. I do recommend taking the shuttle to the trailhead unless you get an early start. Take your time and enjoy the walk in... More

This is the embodiment of nature's majestic beauty. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Glacier national park, but this hike was probably my favorite part. We did the hike in October in the rain, and it wasn't too difficult. The pathways are worn really well, so that its pretty easy to see and walk without sliding all over the place.... More

Avalanche Lake is gorgeous but the congestion and inadequate parking significantly detract from the experience. For similar distance and scenery, I recommend Lower Grinnell Lake out of Many Glacier. If you go to Avalanche Lake, consider arriving at sunrise OR take one of the shuttle buses.

We loved this hike. There is a daily guided ranger tour and we decided to take advantage of this. It is a beautiful treed hike which begins at the trail of tall cedars and wanders which along a stream before heading upwards. We stopped a number of times on the way to the lake to hear about the history and... More

4 of us (mid 20's) made the hike from the Trail of the Cedars to Avalanche Lake. It was only 2 miles there and 2 miles back, but for those of us that we out of shape, it seemed much longer. Luckily we kept passing people that were heading back from the lake that kept telling us the view was... More

Not to long of a hike with beautiful creek and mountain views on the way. Be very alert for bears, and try to avoid hiking alone. The lake is beautiful but is fed from snow so is very cold.
