We stayed in Flagstaff and came to the south rim from the east which allowed us to also visit the Sunset Crater Volcano and Wupatki Nat'l Monuments. The east rim drive of the Grand Canyon was well worth the trip

This is also known as Desert View Drive. If you have your own transport, definitely do this drive. There are several lookouts along the way, easy to access and park. The shuttles do not go any further than Yaki Point. The Desert View Watchtower is...More

Research touted this as the least used entry and a way to avoid some of the crushing crowds, so we drove the extra miles to use this entrance. It was worth the drive! By entering on the east, we were able to do quite a...More

We were so happy that we took this drive along the east rim of The Grand Canyon National Park. We had many breathtaking views all to ourselves.

First, hike the rim trail as much as possible, then take the time to drive as much of this as you can. There are several places to stop and each has a unique view.

If you're taking this all the way to the North Rim the geology is amazing. Even for a shorter drive the overlooks are interesting, but not stunningly different from the South Rim.

We took the free shuttle buses along this route and saw some incredible views of the canyon. There are so many places to stop along the route with incredible views of the canyon. This is a must do on your trip.

It is still surprising how large and beautiful the Grand Canyon is; pictures don't do it justice. The East Rim has much less tourist activity compared to other locations. There are numerous places to pull over to get different perspectives. You can easily drive into...More

Arrived at east entrance gate as it was starting to rain. Absolutely beautiful to see the canyon on the rain. The monsoon season brings afternoon rain somewhere - not long but the sky is gorgeous and the colors are more vibrant. This drive was beautiful...More

Have not spent much time on the East rim drive in the past. With a week to spend at the canyon we had the time. The views were awesome. The views of the river were great. The drive opened up so much more of the...More

I stayed in Flagstaff and drove route 89 north then turned off on to route 64 east to do the east rim drive. It looks like if you take route 89 south from Page you turn off on to route 64 east to do the east rim drive. I'm... More

I'd give yourself at least two hours minimum and that's not spending much time at any one location. Desert View alone can consume an hour easily. The traffic in summer can be obnoxious due to the hordes of campers and... More
