The trail is mostly paved, except along the western flank toward Hermit's Rest. It runs about 14 miles and there is very little gain and loss. You could set your mind to walk it in one day, but I reserve three. I do the western...More

This trail has spectacular views. Unfortunately, I have an extreme fear of heights. Many areas have no railings and I was too afraid to continue. My family trekked on and got some amazing photos.

The rim trail can be anything from a gentle stroll to a proper hike. Its busiest by the visitor centre getting less populated as you get to the ends. All the central section is flat. The views are of course fabulous!

The rim trail is your starting point for your visit to the Grand Canyon. Whether is walking along the trail or using it as a way to get to some of the other trails in the canyon, you will be on it. Walk slowly and...More

My sister and I flew into Vegas from Pittsburgh last week, and part of our 'Sisterfest' getaway was to rent a car and drive to the Grand Canyon to hike the South Rim Trail. We both enjoy hiking, but were concerned about the more challenging...More

This is a must while at the park. You can take the shuttle or walk. Perfect for groups of different ages and fitness levels.

Hiked the trail from the South Rim Visitor's Center to the El Tovar hotel. Neat hike. Make sure to stop at the canyon geology center and spend time finding out how the canyon was formed.

Unlike the trails down into the Canyon, this is relatively easy trail to walk, even in a strong wind. You get quite different views of the canyon by walking from the Visitor Centre by the car park to the start of the red bus ride...More

After hiking down into the canyon on Bright Angel Trail the day before, we decided to take a leisurely hike along the rim. The views along the way were exceptional and the hike is relatively flat on paved path. During the day, the trail can...More

The trail is flat more or less. Walk takes about 3 hours, if you walk slowly, stop to have a rest and take photos or visit museums on your way. I recommend to start at the Visitor center from a documentary about the Grand Canyon.

Do you mean from Yavapai Point on the Rim or the lodge? There are maps online of the South Rim trail that will answer your question about walking from point to point. We used the bus from Yavapai lodge to the Rim Trail... More

What wheelchair accessible options are available? One in party of 3 can't tolerate a lot of bumpy rides (prior spinal surgeries) or walk for more than a few minutes. Will need wheelchair.

Here is the official answer from the park management. Most of the trail is paved and some sections are accessible. Excellent walking for quiet views of the inner canyon and for visitors who desire an easy hike with minimal... More
