My dad and I took this hike while we were on the north rim. It's about 10 miles round trip. The park provides you with a little pamphlet that corresponds to marked pegs on the trail that explains the difference storical or important facts about the Park, wildlife, trees or rock formations. Unfortunately, we both forgot our cameras this day.... More

We hiked many trails during our tour of Arizona/ Utah and this was right up there. Unfortunately we didn't have time to hike whole trail only did about 3 miles in but what views! Quiet and peaceful even in August. We found the going easy. Remember to pick up a map at the trailhead it gives lots of interesting information.

I've just returned from a 17 day trip to UT, NM, AZ, and CO. We hiked a lot of trails through National Parks and I have to say that this particular trail was my favorite!! Not only does it include stunning views of the Grand Canyon but the trail winds up and down rocky mountain sides and through tall forest... More

This 10 mile, 16 km hike is not too strenuous. It follows the north rim for the first half before disappearing into the forest, and reappearing at a different point on the rim. It is very peaceful, with few people. The camera shy Kaibab squirrels flit up and down the trees. The views are breath-taking. The heat of the mid-day... More

Of all the hikes we did this was my favorite, combining a very pleasant walk through the forest and awesome canyon views which just get better and better as you go along. It wasn't crowded. It's a moderate hike, about 9 miles RT, and not much elevation gain.

Fantastic 10 mile hike on the north rim. One of the best hikes I've enjoyed while living in AZ. Not terribly strenuous, not very crowded, and with beautiful rim and forest views. The trail hugs the Transept Canyon initially, then dips down into a forested area, before finally arriving at the grand reveal at Widforss Point. The view from here... More

I chose this as the first of my hikes at the Grand Canyon because of its proximity to the highway. Stopped here in the late morning for a glorious hike through the forest. The trail hugs the rim of the canyon for a while, then veers deeper into the forest. It was on this trail that I caught my first... More

A bit of elevation gain in the beginning. Off the beaten path so not a crowded trail. If you look carefully you realize many of the rocks/boulders have fossils embedded in them. Wonderful view points of the canyon from many places on the trail. It is out and back so you can do as much or as little as you... More

The trailhead is a few miles from the Grand Canyon Lodge. There are free trail maps available there, which include numbered descriptions of some of the sights. The trail is 10 miles roundtrip, but many people turn around sooner. There are some ups and downs, but nothing major.

I hiked the 10-mile round-trip Widforss trail in August, 2012. This is an out-and-back trail that begins about 2 miles north of the Grand Canyon Lodge, off a gravel road, just a bit off of and west of Route 67. I would categorize the trail as moderately challenging, given its length and quite a few moderately steep up and downs.... More
