Long way down

The Abyss is a good place to see how far down the Grand Canyon extends below. The views are awesome also. Not as many different views as Moran Point or Mariposa Point.

Not sure why we got off the shuttle to see this place. Not worth if you running short of time. Can see the Colorado river from here.

Our stay here was short. There are better choices. You take the red shuttle to get here. The draw is the shear drop which does little for me.

After Hopi Point, The Abyss offers the next best views on the Red route. It is a sheer drop , but safe for viewing and photographing. If you have to choose among the 9 stops on the Red route along the Hermit road we would highly recommend this along with the Hopi point

Don't have far to walk once you get off the shuttle. It's a quick on and off point unless you are going to walk along the rim trail. The biggest part of the Canyon view here is the big drop off.

This attraction is justly names. Beautiful as you stare down and across this vast expanse. You can see for miles. Unless you really love heights, it is hard to walk close to the edge.

Take the Park shuttle and get off at The Abyss. Take a short walk and absorb the incredible views. Every stop has something worth experiencing.

One of the better overlooks on the South Rim. This is stop #5 of the 9 stops on the way from Grand Canyon Village out to Hermit's Rest.

The Abyss (Grand Canyon South Rim View) is a scheduled stop on the NPS Bus Service Red Line. This lookout is the closest you will get to a vertical drop of such magnitude. Make sure you walk along the rim to the right and find alternate views.
