This was one of our favorite hikes while visiting GTNP. We arrived early and parked by the marina ramp which is the location of the trailhead. In mid August it was a nice 45 degrees when we started. The trail is well marked and an easy (to possibly moderate for some) hike. There were not many out and maybe saw... More

Our family of five (mom, dad, 11-year-old, 8-year-old, and 4-year-old) woke up early (we were staying at Colter Bay Village) and did the Swan Lake/Heron Pond loop trail early in the morning. The parking is near the boat ramp (by the marina), and the trail starts on the other side of the boat ramp. Look for the sign that says... More

We enjoyed this hike but it was very long. A round trip to reach hermitage point is at least 8 miles, plus anything else you do that day. We started around 9 and ended around 2 (I think) with a break for lunch. The views were really great and the hike enjoyable (excepting all the horse poop). There really weren't... More

The trail rides from Colter Bay use the same trails as hikers, for the most part. If you are on foot, you spend a lot of time stepping over and around the horse poop--apparently, no one cleans up. That said, it is a wonderful, shady walk (if you have your bug spray on). Yes, the trails get a little crowded as... More

Chance to get away from people as you explore this area. The views of the lake and the mountains around it make for spectacular views

We arrived in Grand Teton on a perfect Saturday afternoon in late July. This is the absolute peak season there. The areas around Jenny Lake were packed beyond comprehension. I wondered if we would ever get a peaceful view of the jagged peaks across the water. The next day we chose this as our hike and had no regrets. A... More

Depending on which way you go, 9.5 miles reaches the point and back to the Colter Bay visitor center. Along the way expansive views of the Tetons across Jackson Lake and mesmerizing picnic spots await you. I preferred to run it in the early morning. This is a magical place.

You get amazing views on this hike. Go on a clear day for best views though. It is relatively easy. Just distance. Carry bear spray. If you have time, bring a sandwich to eat and relax when you reach the main point. The trailhead is at the end of the parking lot of Colter Bay Marina. Where good shoes because... More

Follow the crane prints for stunning views along the way to the best picnic spot in Grand Tetons. You'll see lakes, beaver lodges, wild life, mountains on your way to Hermitage Point. Be sure to bring plenty of water and a lots of goodies for a yummy meal at my favorite spot in the Tetons.

Did the full loop taking in Heron Pond, Hermitage Point itself and Swan Lake. It was mid-September and Colter Bay was wonderfully quiet and bug-free, and so was the trail. We were staying in the Cabins so it was great to be able to have a day without using the car. The walk is mostly through woods, opening out with... More
