We stopped by here for a quick visit to see the amazing views on top of the GSMNP's highest peak. It was very busy when we visited (this is one of the busiest places in the park) but we finally found a parking spot and...More

We arrived early so there was ample parking. Restrooms near parking lot. Paved trail with incline. Benches, large logs or rocks to take a break if needed. As you walk the trail, take in the ever changing view.

It is less than a Mile walk between the parking lot and the top of Clingman Dome viewing area where you have 365 degree round view of Smokey Mountains, though your view is greatly limited by clouds and pollution. Nevertheless, do not miss stopping there...More

What an AWESOME view! Great time to bond with nature and get some much needed fresh air. My family of five, ages 14 to 48 hiked the half mile from the parking lot to the summit. It is a bit challenging but several benches along...More

Wonderful views from the minute you get out of your car. Parking can be tight so circle through once and then go park on the side of the road, unless you get lucky. There are washrooms and a souvenir shop in the parking area. Several...More

Off beaten path, but excellent road and easy to get to. Can get crowed on weekends and parking can become difficult to find. AT cross the park here and this is neat. Good steep hike to AT not for weak or old. Bathrooms, gift shop...More

Thursday June 22nd was a wet rainy day and we drove up into the Smokeys from Gatlinburg on a whim. It was rainy and cloudy and as we seen the Clingmans Dome exit, I asked my wife to turn. When we arrived at the parking...More

It is only .5 miles, but uphill. The weather is different at the top than the bottom. At the bottom we had sunshine and no clouds. At the top we had misty rain and fog. Glad we did it even though we had no view....More

Go as soon as you can in the morning. Views were extremely limited this time of year - it is, after all, the Smokies! Fun to stop and talk to the Appalachian trail hikers. Offer them food or water- they just climbed this mountain! Very...More

We had to visit! Even though it was cloudy, we got to see lots. It was crowded but manageable. There is a small gift shop and restrooms. The hike to the top was difficult, even for me as a runner, but there are lots of...More

All park roads and trails on Tennessee side of park that were closed have reopened except for the Chimney Tops Trail. The chairlift at Gatlinburg is also open. Destruction of structures happened mainly on Ski Area Road... More

Depends on how close you can park to the actual trail, your age and fitness, and how many days you have been in the area to acclimate to the altitude of 6000 feet. The trail is a strip of pavement straight up the... More

Does anyone know what time the Clingmans Dome opens? I wanted to try my best to beat the heavier traffic

Katiee Elizabeth, the road to Clingmans Dome is closed during the winter, December 1 through March 31. So as of last weekend, April 1st, it is open. Keep in mind we can get some nasty late snow at the higher elevations and... More
