Took the tour while staying at Brooks Lodge. An absolutely amazing view of the largest volcanic eruption of the 20th century (30x greater than Mt. St. Helens). The tour is a one hour ride along a truly single lane road through the wilderness and fording...More

Although the valley no longer smokes it's still an amazing spot. Seeing the layers of ash that fell and hardened as a result of the Novarupta Volcano in 1912 was incredible. We got to the Griggs Visitor Center via the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes...More

Loved this place. Try to do the hiker yourself and visit both spots. I plan on coming back and doing a few days to try to reach the crater. It is a really awesome place. Hike back up is a bit tough, bring water down...More

A well narrated bus ride over a gravel road with brown bears plentiful at the start of the trip. VTTS is an amazing lunar landscape over ancient rock layers, but the trip was cancelled one day while we were there because the bears were plentiful...More

We did a day tour from katmai via bus to this valley. Then we walked down to the valley floor, was interesting, but since we only had 4 nights in Katmai NP, I would have preferred more time with the bears.

This day tour was a great experience - it gets you away from the day crowds at Brooks Camp, and a ranger provides even more interesting information about Katmai NP on the bus ride, during catered lunch, and the (moderately strenuous) hike down to the...More

My husband and I enjoyed a flight seeing tour while on a fishing trip to Brooks Falls.. We have visited Brooks Falls and fished on surrounding rivers but never visited Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes.. Apparently a clear day is a rarity and we hit...More

This day trip is definitely worth taking if you have time. it's a short bus ride/drive, and about 2 hour round trip walk. The sights are so breathtaking, and the learning center is really well presented.
