We went through Fat Man's Misery on the Historical Tour at Mammoth Caves NP. My husband is 6"2 and 300lbs. He was a teensy bit worried, but he fit :) I'd recommend the Historical Tour. We took 3 kids, the littlest just 5, and everyone had a blast!

Check ahead because Fat Man's Misery is part of the Historic Cave Tour which is closed for walkway improvements until May of 2017. But, there are other excellent cave tours to be taken, so don't skip Mammoth Cave NP. You can view parts of the Historic Tour that remain open by taking the a $5 Self-Guided tour through the Historic... More

An awesome cave! Excellent guides (Park Rangers) take you through a very interesting place. We loved the trip as a family. The temperature in the cave is around 16° Celsius. You better take a Jacket along. For photos you will need a tripod.

It is a tight squeeze in Mammoth passage tour but you can make it thru. This well mapped and guided section is tight but all can make it thru the squeeze section.

It's a configuration. This isn't really a review by itself, it's part of a tour. Definitely do this!

An interesting part of the historic tour - was a little tight but not too bad. Most of the tour had wide walkways so this part added some variety and made it feel more like a smaller cave.

This is on the Historic Tour and is interesting but not challenging. I am 6'1" and heavy set. Sure I had to turn sideways and duck but the "squeeze" did not force me to touch the walls. Close but not tight. No worries. The stones are damp and worn smooth from the thousands of visitors rubbing their hands on the... More

We took the HIstoric Tour of Mammoth Cave. It was interesting. This part was great because it was narrow and low so the challenge was getting through the cave. At many points you wondered how you or anyone else was going to get through. Thank goodness the stone was smooth from all the people before you and helped you glide... More

Fat Mans Misery is one of the really fun parts of the cave. You will simply love the challenge of getting thru it. It's a most excellent conversation event after the tour and very memorable.

While on your tour of Mammoth Cave, make sure to take the "Historic" tour so you can try to ease your way through "Fat Man's Misery." This was so much fun! It's not as horrible as it sounds, just fun! It's interesting how many different ways you have to twist and turn your body to make it through this portion... More
