We took an RV with 4 adults/2 children to Mowich Lake at Mt. Rainier! I must say that the road to get there was worrisome! There is about 15 miles of ROUGH dirt road that shook us all to the core in the RV BUT WORTH IT! My advice is to NOT go in an RV but it was an... More

Easy drive from Olympia, Puyallup or Tacoma for a day hike in Mt Rainier National Park. Be sure to arrive early for a parking spot and expect to pay $25 Park fee per automobile for 7 day parking permit. Mowich Lake is pristine with a glass like surface. The Lakeshore Trail goes along the lake's side with multiple picturesque overlooks.... More

We loved our time at this CG, but please be aware that most of the spots are reserved to backpackers, and this is poorly marked. As you enter the camping loop from the parking area, the tent pads on the left side are for campers who have driven in, and these spots cannot be reserved ahead of time. The tent... More

It feels like you are right at the base of the snow line, and remote, yet accessible. Many small trails stem from this area, and the views are incredible! We've camped here twice so far.

We took the trip out to Mowich on our way back after spending time in the other parts of the park. It was well worth the drive, beautiful lake, great spot to picnic.

Mowich Lake has a nice campground and is a great jumping off place for hikes to Spray Park. While a serious hike, the trail is good and, midsummer, the flowers are guaranteed to amaze you. This year they were gone in August when I visited, but two years ago they astounded me and I've done plenty of hiking in Alpine... More

The drive could be a bit testing. The road gives way to a track which is best suited to four wheel drive. We had a family hatchback and we managed but it took longer than it should have, this part of the road was 12miles. We stopped a few times to see if we could get a decent view of... More

a great alpine lake that has camping. not visited much maybe due to being on the less popular side of the mountain(not paradise), or the fact that there is a fairly long gravel road to access this area. once up there expect nice camping and great hiking on trails that lead to views not available to cars.

pretty lake high up the carbon entrance. There is no ranger presence here, no visitor center, so you come here to hike or camp. The summit of Ranier is not visible from the parking area, but is if you take the trails.

We went on the hike to Spay park. The trailhead is at Mowich Lake. My husband and I are in our 40's and in okay shape. There were a couple of stretches that were decently uphill. And they were longer than our endurance could take. We rested a few times and it was all worth it. The views of the... More
