Take Hwy 20 all the way from Port Townsend to the Idaho border, about 300 miles of spender with the highlight at North Cascades National Park. You cannot go wrong here for views, but like any other NP in August it will be crowded... And...More

It takes a lot to render me speechless but the beauty of the natural world was absolutely breathtaking. The colours, the contours and the scenic driveway ensured an absolutely perfect day. Well worth a visit and plenty of hikes available if that's of interest.

It is so close to the Canadian border; yet I am certain many do not venture south to experience the beauty of this road. We took a pan of the summit; catch my presence in stereo.

It is described as one of the most scenic highway in the USA and I can see why! Just riding along this way gives you an idea of the astonishing beauty of this national park.

This isn't a route for getting from point A to point B in a hurry . It's out of the way and there are quicker options for getting across the Cascades , but this has to be one of the prettiest roads in the west....More

Honestly, I have not seen anything in the N. Cascade that doesn't deserve 5 stars. It's a beautiful park and it has shockingly few visitors. You don't necessarily have to be hiking into the backcountry to see many of the prime sites. Diablo Lake is...More

This is a nice highway to drive. Lots of stuff to see and do. It is very well maintained, even in the winter. Part of the road does close Winthrop to Ross Lake or so in bad weather. Otherwise it's a nice drive with lots...More

We had only driven across the North Cascades Highway once before, in the 1980's, and, although it's slow and out of the way, it was well worth visiting recently. The scenery, of course, is spectacular. There weren't any services along the way. This highway is...More

My wife and I travelled through the Cascades on the North Cascades Highway (Hwy 20) on our motorcycles. It is a brilliant ride. There are several places to stop for a break and a view including the Diablo Lake Lookout. The road was in very...More

SR 20 is closed for most of the winter. Obviously, the exact dates can change from year to year. To get a good guess on when that is likely to be during a future time, there is a website which I am not allowed to post here... More

Do yourself a favor and try to stay overnight in Winthrop WA. You can do it in one day (leave Seatttle very early) but an overnight better. Next day continue east and then south to Wenachee. Then back to Seattle via... More
