If you want to escape the over built spaces of Tuscon's popular parks, head over the Tucson mountains to the Western unit of this great park. Much quieter and more in tune with the real desert experience. It has it all including petroglyphs, hiking, animal and bird watching etc. You can also side tour to the incredible Desert Museum and... If you're nearby you must check this out. And you must watch the video about the desert and the saguaros. Very informative. Gave me a new appreciation for the relationship between the saguaros, all things nature and the Indians that have lived here for centuries. Watch the video till it's over. If you've ever seen a better segue back from... More

Visiting from Australia, we wanted an Annual National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass. Our first opportunity was at the Red Hill Visitors Centre at Suguaro NP West. We did not manage to arrive from San Diego until 4.40pm. No problem for the Volunteers at this lovely Visitors Centre. Within 20 minutes we had our America the Beautiful Pass, nearly... More

Red Hills Visitor Center is in the western district (Tucson Mountain District) of the Saguaro National Park. I was having a hard time deciding which side to visit and finally decided that, since they are both such an easy drive from Tucson, I would do both. So glad I made that choice because I very nearly passed on the west... More

The first thing that impressed me was the proliferation of Saguaro Cactus. The hillsides are filled with them. We debated about whether to visit the east or west section of the Park. We decided on the west section. Good choice (though the east section may also be great). We went through the small Visitor's Center, then took a drive on... More

Great Visitor Center to give you information regarding the Saguaro National Park. We found exactly where the handicapp picnic areas were located within the park. We found one perfect for a picnic. The park is amazing and many places to hike, look, and picnic. Spend about 1-2 hours within easy to drive and FREE park.

I make it a point to stop at all the visitor centers for the national parks, but I thought this one was really good. They had information about all the animals in the park, and a lot of information about the cacti. They even had information about what happens when they grow old, which I thought was the coolest thing.... More

This visitor center is a great information source about Saguaro National Park. They have a wonderful video with a surprise at the end. The drive through the park is amazing. It is a dirt road, but very smooth. We saw lots of blooming cactus in March.

Nice little stop with lots of information. Be sure and take in the free presentations. The rangers provided lots of help. Lovely views from their patio and close to hiking trails.

I visited Saguaro National Park-West by myself and started at the Red Hills Visitor Center to get some ideas for a good way to safely explore the park. The rangers were so friendly and encouraged me to see the petroglyphs at Signal Hill and to take the King Canyon Trail. I did both and had a fantastic day. On my... More
