This is a very long, very winding road. Pretty much any vehicle can make it (I was driving a Toyota Camry rental). But give yourself a LOT of time because even though I drove fairly fast for the road it still took a long time....More

Stay away, if you are not interested or capable of real mountain driving. Please. This road is ancient, with blind turns, no guard rails etc. But for those who know how to actually drive, pull out, share the road and respect nature... a fantastic driving...More

We started out on the Mineral King road, planning to make a day of it. The road is about 1.5 lanes wide and the curves so blind that you can't see what is coming toward you until you are beyond the bend. We became worried...More

Great hike. Beautiful hike. It was a difficult hike for beginners, but a great challenge! The trail was easy to follow. We never had to use our maps. Plenty of water sources. Camp sites were easy to find, and the people we met were super....More

Mineral King Road is a 20 mile tightly winding road. It has no shoulders, climbs steadily, and is one-lane in places. Many blind corners. Don't take an RV - even a small one. There are two campgrounds - both very nice. Plan to check in...More

The temperature was wonderful and the views terrific. Short or long hikes. Went without reservations so difficult to find lodging inside park. Did find camp sites.

The owner of the lodge where we were staying suggested a visit to Mineral King. He said he had driven it a dozen times but that his wife hated it. Now I know why. The road is 25 miles long and the 1st 11 miles...More

Expect 1.5 hour drive each way plus another 2 hours when you reach your destination for hiking. Short term visits at this time of year do not require you to "marmot proof" your car.

No need to worry on this road if you take it slow. It is windy and narrow, but it is easy to let others pass. Take your bonine if you get car sick.

If you're only used to city driving and have no nerve, stay off this road, for everyone's sake. This incredible historic road was carved out before the advent of the motor car. Almost 700 curves, no guard rails, bad pavement, and sheer drops down canyon....More
