Awesome Scenery

Take time to do this drive when visiting Zion. Not the main attraction but well worth the time to see the other side of the park and amazing scenery.

The Zion – Mount Carmel Highway is a 25 mi long road in Utah in the USA, with a 1.1 mile long tunnel. The road runs from the entrance to Zion eastward to Mount Carmel Junction with US 89. Road was constructed by 1930 and it was a great feat of engineering, in my imagination some what like building the... More

Took this route from Springdale on route to Bryce. Beautiful scenery both before and after the tunnel. As you leave the tunnel there is a small carpark immediately on your right, park up and cross the road for a great hike and big horned goats.

I consider this drive a must see in Zion. Beautiful all around. Scenery before the tunnel and after the tunnel are different - unique and beautiful. We drove from Zion to Bryce and this part of the drive was magnificent.

We turned onto this drive by mistake but it was gorgeous. We drove through the loooooonnngggg tunnel and came back into the canyon. The views were different from the ones on the floor of the canyon but were very gorgeous..

I love coming into Zion from the East side. Checkerboard Mesa is beautiful and very fun to climb and scramble over there Mountain sides. There's a nice hike to overlook the valley just before you enter the tunnel. The tunnel is amazing. I remember as a kid being able to stop and park the car in the middle of the... More

I had visited Zion back in 2005 but arrived from Vegas so we never went to the western part of the park where this is located. I had no idea it exsisted until we drove from Bryce Canyon to Zion this year and it took us this way. Not really sure how we missed it last time but we were... More

The Zion-Mount Carmel Highway or route 9 from the East Entrance of the Zion park to the South Entrance is one of if not the most spectacular drives in American - bar none ! Or in reverse. The rock formation, colors, the switchbacks on the Western side and of course the tunnels are a sight to behold. If you do... More
