We waited about 45 minutes to get to even start through the tunnel. After that it was not very pleasant. In most tunnels there are ceiling lights which give you some "breathing room." Not so here. It was dark and the air was a little...More

Amazing part of the Zion Mt-Carmel Highway experience. You must travel through this tunnel to get to the park only if you enter through the east entrance. We came in from Springdale, but made a special trip just to experience the beautiful scenery before and...More

The 1.1 mile drive through the tunnel is definitely exciting. It's pitch dark except where "windows" were blasted out. These provide wonderful views as the Canyon progressively narrows. Beyond the tunnel are great vistas of layered rock.

When people talk about a tunnel they don't expect one that is a few miles long and at a steep angle. This is the way to enter the park for the first time. Just stunning

If you like waiting for an hour to pass thru the tunnel one way because it's so outdated it can't accommodate big motor homes or similar, then good for you. Personally I would rather spend that time in the Park.

If you come in via Route 9, the eastern entrance, you will go through this tunnel. The real reason to do this to enjoy the views on the Zion-Mount Carmel road, which takes you to the main road through the canyon.

A drive through this very long tunnel is punctuated with several brief "windows" and breaks in the tunnel along the way. What a tease on the way to your destination! This tunnel is quite an engineering feat. Enjoy in anticipation of your visit to Zion!

It's a long dark tunnel where your headlights are required. It is a masterpiece of design. You may not be able to park at the tunnel entrance since the lot is tiny. Past the tunnel you see soaring sandstone cliffs.

Imagine a long tunnel through the mountain, with windows carved in to allow you to check out the scenery. Quite an engineering marvel. Its too bad you cannot stop along the way to admire the view from the openings. The tunnel connects, on both sides,...More

Its a tunnel. Fun to drive through. They only let vehicles through one direction at a time, but beautiful views to look at while you are waiting. Gets you to more beautiful Zion views.
