We love learning history about our country and Fort Pickens did not disappoint. We were in Pensacola beach for spring break and visited here for something to do. Not only is the fort very interesting and eerie to walk through but the beaches that surround it are absolutely beautiful. We parked and went to the beach as well. It cost... More

We totally enjoyed visiting this outstanding fort. The ride out to the Fort is wonderful itself. When we finally arrived at the Fort we were amazed at the structure. Worth taking advantage of the informative tours offered by the park rangers. Self guided tours are also available, but can be confusing given the map provided. The Fort could benefit from... More

Interesting history. This was a Fort during WWI. Some of the battery areas are still visible. The can be toured. There are even a small number of cannons remaining. The area was mostly hidden by sand dunes and vegetation to prevent seeing it from aircraft. The Fort is larger than I would have suspected and an amazing amount remains after... More

Three years ago we took a catamaran trip to Fort Jefferson in the Dry Tortugas. (Do this trip if you have the chance.) This fort was similar to that fort. Great self-guided tour and fairly easy to get around. You drive through the fort walls to park so that's a close walk to begin the tour. The stairs to the... More

The beaches here are so beautiful, and to tour the Fort is something you cannot forget. It's changed a lot since I was a kid, but nonetheless I love it here. The Fort itself holds so much history, and the staff here are so friendly and knowledgeable! Some parts of the Fort have closed over time for safety concerns, but... More

This fort has a beautiful view of the Gulf. There are signs to read on the events and reason for the condition of the buildings. It's really a gem!

Fort Pickens is amazing for any history buff or just to learn about the Forts history. It's a nice getaway and took about an hour of our time to walk around and read everything.

The fort is a great place, the history is amazing and the fort is well preserved. The kids will have fun running around and looking at everything. Grab a map of the site at the information center. It has a nice explanation of the fort's features and history. You can't beat the view from the walls. The architecture is cool... More
