Interesting colour scheme from the outside and inside a bit of a gem. A little run down, but there seem to be more churches than people in Castro. Have a look at the wooden pillars, painted to look like stone.

Not one of the original Jesuit churches (from the 1500's), this was built entirely of wood in 1910. Chiloe's ubiquotous metal sheathing protects the exterior from the elements, but is brightly painted. The interior is a marvel of local craftsmanship. The key root word here is 'ship' as the roof is in essence an inverted ship hull. It appears that... More

Some of the Chiloe churches are a bit over-rated, frankly. This one certainly isn't. It's religiosity is absolutely there, as it should be, but it's also elegantly done; look out for the stars in the sky!

In my opinion stil the most pristine Town on the Island. Old architecture and a cute harbour with plenty of possibilities for daytrips.

We have visited Chonchi many times and have seen the restoration of this pretty little church come to fruition. A lot of work has gone into it....not only recently, but over the years and especially when it was originally built. There is a museum in Ancud which deals with the construction of Chilote churches and it's well worth a visit... More

Small wooden church. They say of 'historical' significance as they do for many on this island. What can I say? It cost us quite a lot of money to come here from Castro - maybe look at my photos and draw your own conclusion...

One of the most interesting churches on Chiloe. All of them are almost the same. Interesting colours of the church and surrondings. At the same square you can buy craftworks.

I like the typical churches of Chiloé and this is a nice visit. I believe that the effort the communities in those villages have to put to preserve the churches i so huge that they deserve the credit. The colours and the nice sorroundings are outstanding.

This church is one of the best preserved in Chiloe. Try to get behind the altar, as they have a nice exhibition on how these churches are built and preserved.
