This is a beautiful, picture perfect location. We drove out from St. John’s and spent most of the day visiting the area. We started with the Colony of Avalon site and then made our way to the lighthouse for a late lunch. To get to...More

Beautiful town with impressive (and important) archaeological dig site. Very well preserved early English settlement. Guided tour is about 1.5 hour but certainly worth the time. Port area, church, and nearby lighthouse are lovely sites to see as well.

Very peaceful town, as they all are in the part of the world. Part of the Irish Loop, but the true claim to fame is the Lighthouse, and it’s picnic lunch.

We walked out on a beautiful day and were mesmerized but the shear number of whales in the nearby waters. The walk out the Lighthouse is worth it without the whale watching bonus.

We visited in Mid oct after the park had closed but we could still drive in and look around. Lots of information boards explaining the history, and it was free. We drove towards the lighthouse but eventually the road turns to gravel and is very...More

Yes, it is an active dig, altho' a bit primitive, but worthwhile, also has a map explaining dig and history, easily accessible.
