The five tallest windmills in the world can be found in the Rotterdam suburban city of Schiedam. They are all located around the canal " Lange Haven" which winds its way through Schiedam. A visit to the " Museummolen De Nieuwe Palmboom" allows you to see how a windmill works, plus a climb to the top affords a good view... More

There are many windmills in Schiedam and I visited all of them including The Kamel, The Vrijheid and The Noord which is the tallest in the world. Its height at the pinnacle is 33.3m with a wing span of 26.6m. Use to read about windmills in my Geography books and I was very happy to see them right in front... More

windmills close to each other including the tallest in the world. Used for making gin which is still the biggest employer in the town. From there we went on a boat trip on the canals which is always a nice thing to do. Commentary in Dutch but you get the gist

I arrived to find the windmill closed for renovations with no signs or information. Still, this and the other windmills in Schiedam are stunning to see around town.

Went to see the tallest windmills in the world and found five of which one was a museum and you could climb up inside to the sixth floor, out on the balcony you had a wonderful view of the city skyline and where the other windmills were

If you don't have the time to devote to a trip to some of the more famous windmills, a trip to Schiedam could be well worth it. Only about 10 minutes away from Rotterdam is this charming town with an easy walk to see several windmills and a small shopping centre with great cafes and a very good souvenir shop... More

Interesting visit to almost the tallest windmill in the world. Nice view. The person in charge was super nice and he explained us a lot of things about the windmill.

8 working windmills all built in 1738, are used to pump water into reservoirs. They are lived in full time by families whose job it is to keep them in working condition 24/7. I was able to go into one and climb to the top. This was declared a World Heritage Site in 1997. A must see.

Very nice to see a old windmill almost in the center of the schiedam city. Located near the canal is plus.

Truly a sight to be seen. Climb your way to the top and enjoy a great view, and see the inner workings of traditional mills alongs the way.
