Overview
More
Festung Königstein (Königstein Fortress) is a unique monument to the art of European fortress construction. Its 750 years' history have made it an impressive configuration of late Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and 19th century architecture. All adults and children will find something of interest on our 9.5 ha large fortress. You should plan at least two hours for a tour of the fortress. During a guided tour you will also be able to access the underground casemates. Casemate - ital. casa matta (covered house) – cannon-proof fortress rooms.

We visited on a fairly cold, clear day in December, after Christmas. We travelled by train, and then walked up to the castle from the town along the Malerweg footpath. This starts as a steep path with lots of steps. Fortunately, it wasn't icy on...More

Very interesting place, excellent outlook from the walls. Very good service incl. the car parking. Unfortunately the entrance fee is quite high, for a map and audio guide you have to pay extra. Once you pay you have a free access to all facilities -...More

What to say much more? It is absolutely fantastic! Some advice - if you have some more time take the walk of the guards around the walls of the castle - you enter it by turning right ("Malerweg") just after the path from the parking...More

This Saxon fortress is just outside of Dresden. Is on top of a mountain with multiple buildings . Two most interesting sights are the Palace and the extremely deep well .

We went here for a half-day trip (In the morning, we went to Bastei). From Kurort Rathen (the nearest train station from Bastei/Rathen), we took the train to Konigstein. You can see the fortress from the train or from the ferries. We got lost on...More

The castle is large and sits on top of a table mountain in the Elbe sandstone hills. The views are simply amazing and well worth the effort to get there. We were there early on a sunny Sunday morning, the first car in the parking...More
