We stayed near Jolly Harbor during the middle week of April. We visited most of the beaches along the Caribbean side near Jolly. Darkwoods had the best beach combing and was one of the least crowded. Did not have any jet ski locals trying to drum up business. They also have a decent bar at the end of the beach... More

We stayed at Hermitage Bay & hired a car for the day to visit the area around English harbour. On the way back we checked out the beaches and this one was brillant. Not too busy, beautifully white beach and a wonderful calm turquoise sea......Caribbean peregection!

We arrived before the cruise ships and had the beach to ourselves for the first hour. Dixie the beach guy - who has the patience of a saint -sorted us out with a prime spot on the beach. Within an hour or so the beach was really and Dixie was rushed off his feet. 3 hours later and everyone was... More

The bar & grill is everything! The drinks are strong, food is fresh & bread pudding with ice cream is magnifique. Bring your own towels or you'll pay $10 to rent 1. There are many fish and chairs - rental is cheap and some umbrellas are available too. Beautiful staff & vendors. Nice place to kick back and relax.

Wild waves, right westerly direction in the evening, good beach bar. Not wild and origin - but very nice

Had an amazing day at Darkwood Beach. We had done research prior to our trip and knew we wanted to spend the day here. As expected, our Taxi driver did try to take us to Valley Church Beach, saying it was "so much better," but honestly I don't know how it could be. Taxis, on Antigua, like many Caribbean Islands... All beaches on the island (there are over 365) are public property, thus free to anyone, but there are a number of hotels and condo’s that can make it a little challenging to reach the beach. Verses taking one of the ships tours, the four of us decided to get a taxi van and plant ourselves on a nice beach... More

I love this beach so much. Beautiful sand and water, great for strolling, excellent swimming, and a great bar and restaurant. Not crowded, either. Easy to drive to (fun drive!) and easy parking. I love it!

We were taken here by a taxi driver after an island tour. It was very quiet even with two cruise ships in port. Two sun beds and an umbrella cost 15 dollars. The staff at the beach bar were so helpful and friendly, just had a drink but prices looked good. Wifi was good too. Would like to visit here... More
