- microbuzToronto, Canada19 contributionsOk but not greatTook the catamaran cruise to Cayo Blanco today. Our cruise included as we were told, swimming with the dolphins and a lobster lunch. When we arrived at the dolphin activity, it turns out that you only stand in the water and the dolphin swims past you as you touch it. There was a large extra charge to actually get in the water with the dolphin and swim with it. This was not explained to us when booking the trip. After that they took us for snorkeling. The brochure said it was at a coral reef and many fish. There was no coral and there were no fish, just weeds. Someone said they saw a lobster. After that we went to the island (Cayo Blanco) for our lobster lunch. On the way to the island it was explained to us that the lobster was in some sort of tomato stew and if we wanted a whole lobster there would be an extra charge. Again not explained to us at the time of booking. Anyway, we did opt in to the whole lobster for $20.00 US extra per person. It was quite substantial ( we each had a whole lobster) but overcooked which made it tough. I didn’t care for the sauce they put on it but others in our party liked it. As far as the rest of the food, mediocre at best including the included lobster stew. I expected better for what we were charged for the cruise. To sum it up, it was an ok experience but not spectacular.Visited January 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 January 2023
- bobbiesuegirlSaskatchewan, Canada37 contributionsA piece of Paradise! Our day at Cayo Blanco was fantastic! The catamaran trip there was fun and entertaining and the time spent on the island was chill and laid back. The seafood buffet was really good as were the drinks. The beach and ocean are gorgeous and we were sad to leave. The snorkeling part of our tour could have been longer, but overall I would highly recommend a tour to this island.Visited February 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 March 2023

- DefLep96Kentville, Canada16 contributionsLook people from Canada! Iceberg! This is a must do in Varadero. The boat captain and staff were kind, had great humour and were very interactive throughout the whole day. Drinks on both the boat and island were great. Pay the 5 bucks for at least one of the pina coladas, they’re one of the better ones you can get. The food was some of the best food we had all week. The beach is beautiful!Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 7 May 2023
- Tanya R8 contributionsFantastic experience!I travelled to Cato blanco on a catamaran tour with my family, we were 3 adults and a teenager. We booked with Tui but apparently lots of providers offer this tour. It was so amazing I would do it again! We got collected by coach from the hotel and it’s about a 25 min trip to the harbour. The catamaran was pristine and the crew and captain so welcoming and funny. I have seen some reviews that talk about the noise and the music but that wasn’t my experience at all. It was clear it was a fun experience so if you want a completely tranquil boat ride then this isn’t for you. However the music set the tone for the ride, it took about 90 mins to get to the snorkel site, and whilst fun everyone took safety really seriously and made sure everyone stayed safe in the water. The fish were amazing and the sea so warm. Then it was on to Cayo Blanco. A true tropical paradise! We had a superb buffet. Again I had seen reviews about the food but we had no complaints. Plenty of fresh salad, vegetables and the seafood was amazing! The bar was included on board and on the island. Cocktails were extra but I’d highly recommend a Pina Colada coconut! It was $8 and worth every penny!! We had about 3 hours on the island which has sun beds and again the warmest most beautiful sea. The trip back as just as smooth with a snack and more drinks if you wanted them. There was some dancing and music at the end but there were some that didn’t do it and that was no problem. Be sure to tip as the crew and captain were amazing!Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten 1 July 2023

The beach/sea and palm trees were like something from the bounty advert! The animals on the island were also quite amazing,to see them casually walking amongst people was quite surreal at times. Snorkelling on route was cancelled due to strong waves but island was ok. You could imagine you were the only ones on it. Trip included drinks and meal. Bar was small and beer tap not working, but hey ho. Food was very good… rice again… bit big bit of lobster and lots of meat. Not chaotic queueing but got there. Couple of hours on the island sunbathing and then back via catamaran. Worth doing if you want some different scenery. Catamaran was nice… was definitely not a ‘booze cruise’ as pre you’d reviews as I would have hated that, but a bit of salsa on route back was greatVisited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 1 November 2023

We travelled 2 weeks across Cuba and we wanted to include some days on the beach and a Cayo in the tour. We picked Varadero because we wanted to visit Matanzas too and seemed also easier to reach a Cayo from there.
Unfortunately, the only way we could find was the catamaran trip. The Cayo itself is beautiful, but we woke up early to be picked up at 8.30 am, but between the travel and the stop for snorkelling you don't reach the Cayo before 11.30 and at 14.45 you are already leaving.
The worst part is that (probably because the majority of the passengers come from the resorts) you are forced to watch the entertainment on board with the captain probably thinking that everyone feels the urge of seeing a stage Cuban dancing or trying to organise Macarena dances with everyone.
I get that lots of people on holiday want an open bar, free booze and loud music, but we paid 75 dollars each (you can find it cheaper online BTW) to enjoy the place, not to be pushed to do what we don't like. The captain was extremely pushy and at our refusal to participate in any group activity, he got a bit offended.

We booked the catamaran trip with Tui rep at our hotel. The coach picked us up a
From jilbacao and took us to Varadero harbour where they split you into boats with or without Dolphin swim . We opted for without as heard kept in a small area not open water and I’ve done it before so just after a boat trip.
Once aboard the crew cracked some jokes and made it fun and the bar opened.
We were soon away and out the marina into the bay and you can see the island in the distance.
We then moored up for a snorkel with the fishes jumping in off the back of the boat, it was great loads of fishes in clear water.
Other boats moored up same place so busy spot.
More beer and sunshine on deck and we moored up at a long pontoon and postcard beach white fine sands and clear blue water.
We had a barbecue lunch with free bar included only cocktails extra.
There were wild animals roaming around including iguana. The beach is long and seems to go on forever. The sunbeds are laid out for a small tip and we had a couple of hours to chill before boarding again for the sail back.
The music was louder and the crew entertained by playing some games with participants which was fun to watch.
Plenty of different nationalities on board.

Yes, absolutely . We booked our tickets from Air Canada rep. Usually, different reps are available in the hotel lobby during the day . When we bought the tickets, everything is in their responsibility until we return to the resort. I didn’t book our catamaran tickets before we fly. I do not have a solid answer for you on that but there is a marina attached to where you leave from to get there. There may be someone willing to charter.
