- cghe15Ottawa, Canada12 contributionsAn Interesting StopWe decided to walk from our resort to Cueva de Ambrosio with our kids (age 7 & 9) as an activity for one of our resort days. The walk was about 1km, which was not too far. The walk was mainly in the sun and we chose to go in the morning when it wasn’t too hot. It is also possible to take the hop on/ hop off tour bus, especially if you are planning on heading onward to other sites. We really enjoyed the tour and our guide (Juan) provided us with a lot of information about the caves, bats, other bugs, plant life, and the cave drawings. We found it very interesting and was a nice putting for the day. If you have some extra time, it is worth a quick stop!Visited January 2023Travelled with familyWritten 24 January 2023
- Dave&Mel COttawa, Canada6 contributionsGreat attraction Feb.2023Had a amazing experience at this small attraction. Only took about an hour to explore the cave but you can take as long as you want. The gentleman at the entrance walked us in and gave us a quick tour and explanation of the history of the cave, then allowed us to tour at our own pace. The cave art was interesting to see, the bats were absolutely phenomenal to watch. You can get there using the HOHO. We’ll worth the $5 bus trip and $5 entrance fee.Visited February 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 March 2023
- Magenta56229 contributionsNot a long visit but we enjoyed itWe walked to the caves from the Royalton Hicacos in about 5 minutes. It doesn't open till 10am I think. We paid $5 each and the guide showed us the points of interest and then left us to explore ourselves. Lots of bats. Doesn't take too long but worth a visit. We saw a couple of birds on the lake on the way back - ibis and a stilt.Visited March 2023Written 29 March 2023

Was very informative. Once he gives you the tour you are free to explore on your own. Nice and cool in the cave on a hot day.Visited April 2023Travelled soloWritten 17 April 2023
- Janine ERomford, United Kingdom1 contributionBat caveTook the tourist bus to the caves. There is a man in the small booth to take your entrance fee of $5 and when everyone is ready he leads you into the cave. The cave is small but very good. The guide is informative and tells you about the cave drawings and more importantly the bats. He shines his light up and you can see hundreds of bats hanging from the ceiling. There are some on their own, some in pairs and in the holes lots cuddled together. Every now and then they fly around the cave, again either on their own or in groups. After talking about the caves and bats the guide leaves you to explore on your own. These caves are definitely worth a visit.Visited November 2023Travelled soloWritten 21 November 2023

A very good value and unique stop on the HOHO bus. Very worth it - young kids are free, and the lady at the front is knowledgeable about its history, so feel free to ask her any question!

This was a quick stop on a day out and about. The cave art and the bats were very cool. Make sure to spend time talking to the gatekeeper because he has all the stories and you miss an awful lot if you don't have the conversations.

What hotel did you stay in that you were able to walk to the caves?

We walked from the Melia Peninsula Veradero - it was about 3 kms. Easy walking along the sidewalk, but I wouldn’t want to do it in the afternoon heat. As others have mentioned, the off and on bus goes right by (there is a stop there).

Too far to walk. Your best bet is the hop on/hop off Beachtur bus. Your hotel can direct you to bus stop just outside hotel gates. The cost is 5 CUC per person and the ticket is good all day so you can combine with bus trip into Varadero town. It's about 5 mins on the bus from Grand memories.

Hi We are staying at the Gran Caribe Sunbeach, where would we take the bus or taxi to get to the cave, what does it cost?
Just take the bus $5 CUCs per person for the bus. And $5 for entry. The guide will give you a tour and explain what the caves were used for and some history of the island.

I was wondering about, how many pictographs there are in the caves and their ages?

I am planning to be in Varadero for 14 days starting on May 11 and would like to find out information about some tours to Havana and other local areas. I'm a semi-professional photographer and a travel blogger so I'm looking for great tours and incredible places to see. I'd like to have the information as soon as possible in order to make the most time on my trip. Prices and dates / times would be useful. Thank you.
