Savonet Museum is the newest Museum of Curacao! This Museum is a unique concept located at the heart of the Christoffelpark, the largest nature reserve on the island. Established in the former plantation house, called “landhuis”, of the Savonet Plantation. It gives visitors a peek into the lives of the former inhabitants of the area, full of inside information and views. From the first Arowak Indians who came to the island almost 4000 years ago up to modern times. Modern audio- visual concepts, historical artefacts, faces of descendents of the former slaves, photography, completely restored antiques and much more give the museum the tools to tell a diverse story of interdependence between humans and nature, cultural history and natural history.

A small, focused museum, illustrating the transition from slavery, through emancipation, into the turbulent times beyond. Using personal artifacts and records from the people on a single plantation (Landhuis Savonet). I found this a very direct, moving experience. Not all the audio-visual components worked the...More

We decided to visit this museum after hiking the mountain. As an add-on to our visit to Christoffel National Park, it was enjoyable and worthwhile. But if we'd come just for this, we might have felt disappointed. There was hardly anyone else around, giving it...More

We visited the Savonet Landhuis and paid a $15 deposit on the audio guide that is supposed to work with the videos inside the house/museum. The operation of the videos was spotty, with no ability to start the video from the beginning and sync the...More

The Savonet Museum is designed to show the history of the island's inhabitants. It has podcasts in Dutch, Papiamentu and English. They are interesting but don't follow a historical flow. The displays are good but could be improved. Still worth a quick visit.

We arrived here early morning, I think about 8:00 AM. We purchased tickets for the park and museum, and they told us it was still closed, so we decided to hike some trails. When we came back, a few hours later, it was still closed,...More
