Built for the 5th Centennial anniversary of Columbus' discovery of the Ameriaca's, this site is an historical landmark/lighthouse built in his honor (It's disputed whether or not his remains lay to rest here or at the Basillica in Seville, Spain). Nice stop on the way in/out of the city.

Unless you're a die hard Columbus fan this place didn't really impress me. It was well taken care of but nothing exciting in my opinion.

This is a massive structure. The remains of Cristobal Colon are said to be here. It's amazing architecture and has contributions from many countries in its museum. We were able to go in on the day we went, other reviews say it was closed when they went so I would double check their operating schedules. Keep in mind their holidays... More

The history of the lighthouse was interesting. We didn't get to go inside, our tour guide only let us go to the stairs to take pictures so I am not even sure why it is on the tour!

Recently viewed a documentary about this and it was worth going to view the Columbus Lighthouse in person and have a photo of the tomb that housed the remains of Columbus.

If you are going to Tres Ojas then this might be worth a stop. I would not make a special trip to see this. There is sort of a museum to see, but it is boring. As many places in Santo Domingo- it is not very well taken care of.

If you just want to pop in to see the building and Columbus' tomb it's okay. However there are free guided tours which I highly recommend. We had a fantastic guide who took us into the rooms with the exhibits and explained everything in detail. The lights are off because the surrounding neighborhood is very poor and there isn't enough... More

This is without a doubt a great monument!! the drawback is that is not in the "city center", is "little out" of the way...you need a car to get there, but you if have a car or hire a taxi, it's worth it the visit. Columbus remains are buried there (No in Seville, as the Spanish states) ...Once you there,... More
