Fern Gully was a nice scenic drive through an ancient rainforest type of area. It was only a few minutes from our RIU Resort in Ocho Rios and it was on the way to the city, so we combined a visit here with a shopping trip into downtown Ocho Rios.

Drove through here on our island tour. VeRy shaded and green. A cool place to visit but not sure there are many places you can actually get out of the car or bus to enjoy it. Steep banks on both sides for most of our drive.

Takes you up through a long winding road through an old rainforest now beginning to be protected from the rigors of diesel lorries and all other pollutants. Extremely winding and dark as canopy starts to close over the top of you till you exit at the top to magnificent views of Ochos Rios below.

This lush and scenic drive is just a short way from the Ocho Rios cruise port. It's definitely worth seeing if you want to experience something authentically Jamaican instead of the usual Caribbean cruise port shopping and Margaritaville. The day we went- March 19th- was overcast and about 70 degrees. Take a light jacket if you are in an open... More

Get a "local" taxi, not through the hotel and negotiate your getaway day. This is a lovely ride up a mountainside that is cooling and breath-taking. Pack a lunch from a local stand! A trip I make every visit. The people never forget you. Learn the history of the gully and wow, the size of those philodendrons! Enjoy the sights... More

We stayed in Ocho Rios in early Feb of 2017. The drive through Fern Gully begins not far from the downtown - a turn on Milford Road off of the Ocho Rios bypass. The drive is 3 miles or so, or at least that is as far as we went before turning around. It is definitely a drive covered top... More

This 3 mile drive up above Ocho Rios toward kingston and the expressway is a beautiful ride through the rain forest and especially through this unique stretch of many different kinds of ferns, some only found in Jamaica.
