More than just an art museum, Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico hosts concerts and festivals as well.

The Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico (MAPR), a non-for-profit organization, was inaugurated on July 1, 2000, as a legacy for the Puerto Rican people. The mission of the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico is to enrich the lives of its diverse audiences by making accessible and promoting the knowledge, appreciation, and enjoyment of visual arts from Puerto Rico and the world. The MAPR engages diverse communities to facilitate learning experiences about the visual arts through: the growth of a well-researched permanent collection exemplifying significant and representative examples of Puerto Rican art from the sixteenth century to the present; a dynamic program of exhibitions supported by engaging and exciting educational and cultural programs that collectively deepen the understanding of the role of the visual arts in the human experience and contribute to the creation of a curatorial legacy; documentation, research, interpretation, preservation, and conservation of the collection and the visual arts patrimony of Puerto Rico; and alliances with local, regional, and international museums and institutions to advance the knowledge of, access to, and understanding of the visual arts of the world.

My husband and I thouroughly enjoyed the time spent in this museum. The staff was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. One man took the time to explain to us many pieces in one of the galleries. He truly showed his pride of his country and we learned so much. The museum is very clean, very easy to navigate and the souvenir... More

It is a small but very interesting Museum, it gives a great overview of Puertorican artists and samples of the art that permeated the island in the past. The guides were very friendly and helpful

Please visit, you won't regret it! The building itself is quite a sight. The artworks are superb and carefully curated. It's a wonderful experience. I would definitely recommend, especially for date nights.

Housed in an architecturally distinguished building, the art is varied and beautiful. Not one dull moment! Very helpful docents. It warmed my heart to see such fine art in such a gorgeous setting in always struggling Puerto Rico. A world class venue not to be missed.

Walked to the museum from our hotel. The museum houses wonderful works of art and many mural sized paintings. The didactic descriptions were very informative in both spanish and english. Definitely worth the time to visit this museum.

We arranged an English speaking guide and were not disappointed. It is a place to spend about two hours learning about Puerto Rican artists. Do not miss the gardens.

Beautiful contemporary art both still and interactive. The museum includes a floor for children. Also the children's floor extends to a beautiful garden and walking trail. The staff was very friendly and engaging! I highly recommend this Museum.

This is a very good museum, well curated, organized and easy to navigate. Galleries reveal Puerto Rican art and culture through history up to contemporary art.

Truly a delight and surprise to find a world class art museum in San Juan. If museum in historical hospital restored magically is any indication of a San Juan and turning the tide of urban decay to culture and beauty this is it.

The MAPR (Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico) is housed in what used to be a hospital. The architects who "converted" it into a museum and designed the additional structure did a great job. The building itself and the gardens are worth the visit but the art collection is also truly amazing.
