Snorkeling with a turtle

The beach area leading up to the pier is fringed with eel grass but it is an easy swim if so inclined. We drove out to the fence near the point and got back in the water to explore the pier. There are some steps by the fence to make getting in and out easier. The pilings are decorated with... More

We went on a day with very low visibility, but we still saw tons of fish and even a turtle (hawksbill, we think)! We went around 3pm and there were other snorkelers just finishing up, after which we had the place to ourselves. Great if you enjoy swimming under and around things - the pillars that make up the pier... More

If the sun is bright, the sky is not too cloudy and there is little wind, you'll probably have some good snorkeling at Mosquito Pier. If it's windy, the water gets very choppy making visibility poor. On a good day you can see sea turtles and tons of colored fish. The water out around the pier gets quite deep...I've heard... More

The Mosquito Pier is worth a visit but you can quickly see what you need in about 30 min. or less. Basically, it's a pier built by the U.S. Navy and then abandoned when they closed the base in 2003. With a little imagination, you can visualize the massive ships that came to port at this pier. It's disappointing to... More

We visited Mosquito Pier several times and snorkeled it on the last day of our trip - fantastic snorkeling! We watched beautiful sunsets there as well and truly enjoyed the views!

You wouldn't swim here... you would however get an amazing view of the open ocean. You will drive down a road that will lead you to a pier.. on that road, there will be water on both sides of you, kind of exciting and scary all at once. Nice scenic drive. This wouldn't be a day trip, more like just... More

Had the chance to see lots of sea life from this pier including a sea turtle. The pier goes out about a mile and you can drive out and park walking to the very end where locals are fishing

We saw sea turtles and huge schools of fish under the pier. You must be a fairly good swimmer though because the water is very deep under the pier -- you can't see the bottom, so I guess it is 40 feet deep or more. The pier is worth visiting at least once while on Vieques

If you walk all the way to the end of the pier you will find locals fishing, and if you wait long enough you will likely see sea turtles surfacing. This is also a great location to snap pictures of the sunset and sunrise.

This was one of my favorite destinations for snorkeling on Vieques. On the left there is a small staircase to get into the water so it's a pretty easy place to enter. The snorkeling was great, and we even saw two hawksbill turtles right under the pier.
