Rheilffordd Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake Railway) offers a delightful 9 mile return journey alongside Bala Lake, through the beautiful Snowdonia National Park. Our 2ft narrow gauge steam trains give excellent views of the lake amid its surrounding pastoral and woodland scenery, and of the nearby mountains, Arenig Fawr, Aran Benllyn and Aran Fawddwy. The railway provides an ideal centrepiece for a day’s visit to Bala Lake. The round trip of 1 hour can be broken at any of the stations to enjoy other activities - a pleasant 10 minutes walk into Bala town for shopping or merely browsing. There is access to the lake shore at Llangower station for swimming, fishing or simply lazing by the waterside.

We visited on a damp Tuesday afternoon. We boarded the train at the Bala end and bought tickets as we boarded. A bargain £11 per adult and an extra £2 for an additional child. We had a carriage to ourselves and loved the journey down...More

This is a friendly little railway with a great ride along the lake. Do visit the signal box and chat to the signalman who can tell you all about how it works. The cafe is very good too - a simple menu very well done...More

Terrific little railway. You must talk to the signal man at the other end of the railway from Bala - he's outstanding. Not cheap but great fun.

We did this since we had less time & wanted to experience a train ride when in Snowdonia. We were fortunate to get the last train of the day. The experience is expensive. It costs £12 per adult. Takes you one way up along Lake...More

Not even torrential rain could dampen the delights of this friendly and scenic narrow gauge line that hugs the southerly shore of Llyn Tegid on the trackbed of the former GWR Barmouth to Ruabon line, slain in the 60s by the infamous Dr Beeching. The...More

A delightful way to experience Bala Lake/Llyne Tegid. This excellent narrow gauge railway is superb, and worth taking in both directions. Time it to have lunch at the fantastic Llanuwchllyn Station Café, where the station has a lot more to offer than the Bala end....More

Had a lovely time on the Bala steam train and it's not over priced. Lots of rail enthusiasts are involved in keeping the train and track in good order for visitors to enjoy. Best to catch the train in Llanuwchllyn to Bala and then back...More

Our main station at Llanuwchllyn is the one with the café and shop where you can relax under cover (if it is raining) waiting for the train. All trains have closed coaches so you won't get wet if the Welsh sunshine pours... More
