I spent 6 glorious days here, and would love to return someday. The accommodations were quite comfortable - for being in the middle of the rainforests. Visiting in the dry season, I was surprised by the scarcity of mosquitos. The staff was cheerful and truly seemed to love their jobs. Food was delicious and of great ethnic variety. You could... A 90 minute drive East from Port of Spain on a highway, then North on a narrow twisting road into the El Cerro del Arioo range that fringes the coast, saw us arrive at an extraordinary and expansive Victorian era house that had been turned into a bird sanctuary in the 1940s. It appeared that nothing in the house had... More

This not meant to be a 5 star resort. Think of it more as an eco adventure and you will love it. Off the beaten path via a winding road once leaving the highway, you find yourself at a restored colonial "big house." the wide veranda if the house overlooks a valley and is the hotpot for viewing birds of all... If you are a birder, and if you are not, this is an amazing place to stay. Quiet and deep in the rain forest, very relaxing.

Having read a little about this nature reserve, I was still amazed when I walked onto the veranda and saw the hundreds of humming birds flying around and within inches of your face. There are also loads of other birds to see and other wildlife, mammals, snakes, lizards etc. if you go, and are able, then do take one of... More

I love hummingbirds so I visited Asa Wright and it was totally worth it. There were so many different ones at the feeders on the veranda and on the trail. There were lots of other birds and wildlife too, but the hummingbirds were the best part for me. Definitely worth a visit.

My wife and I spent 5 days at Asa Wright in late January to early February. The Nature Center is located on a former Cocoa/Coffee/Citrus Plantation. The main house of the center was the plantation house, and has the look and feel of a British Colony house. There are only two guest rooms in the plantation house, so if you... More
