The S/V ATABEYRA is a 69', traditionally rigged trading schooner that retired from cargo service almost 20 years ago. The vessel traded for years between Hispaniola and the Turks & Caicos Islands carrying such commodities as rum , beer, produce, plants, building materials and even a few critters. The ship has been refit as a charter vessel and now stays close to home in the sheltered waters of Grace Bay and the Caicos Cays of Turks and Caicos Islands. The S/V ATABEYRA is the perfect platform for learning hands on operation of traditional sailing craft, for exploring the exquisite undersea world and many islands that surround us or just lounging on her spacious, shaded decks. No vessel in the TCI charter fleet is as large or as versatile. Sun Charters and the ATABEYRA crew offer our guests a unique opportunity to get real sailing experience aboard the last of the tropical trading schooners. Being a gaff-rigged vessel carrying two headsails, there are lots of lines to pull, many sails to tend, and the skipper will even be happy to let you take the helm. Feel the past come alive as we sail through the uninhabited chain of Caicos Cays the same way it was done hundreds of years ago. The Cays were once the lair of the infamous lady pirates Anne Bonny and Mary Reid, and the waters and surrounding islands remain basically untouched since that time. The Crew of the Good Ship Atabeyra are proud that she is overwhelmingly the boat the residents choose when recreating in the Caicos Cays.

If you’re lucky enough to be in Providenciales for a full moon, definitely check this out. I went with a friend that’s from the island, so he knew what was worth doing. You get a sunset sail and the glow worm thing is fascinating, not to mention beautiful! The Atabeyra is a gorgeous boat, and Dave and his crew Junior,... More

The only possible way other companies ( including island vibes, we've gone with them before and although still had a good time it doesn't come close to comparing the times we've had with sun charters) is that they have more reviews in numbers why? Because they jam pack the boats so you have no personal space. If your looking to... More

This trip had been recommended to us by our concierge and lived up to expectations. The captain and crew were very friendly and competent. We had 12 people on the boat for the sail and snorkel tour, and had a wonderful time snorkeling on the outer reef (we were blessed with a beautiful calm day). Very laid-back vibe and great... More

I was traveling solo and just reached T&C on the same day, Jan 1, 2015. I am so happy that I took this tour and was lucky to get on the last one for the sunset. I got to see a beautiful sunset, my first one for the year 2015. I made great friends along the way and the staff... More

We did the sunset cruise this past Friday and couldn't have been happier with the outing! The sailboat was very clean and well-stocked with water, soda, beer and rum punch. The captain, his son, and the crew were all very friendly and made for a great sail. About halfway through, they brought out chips and salsa for the group to... More

We sailed the S\V Atabeyra on the Friday night two hour sunset sail from 5pm to 7pm. It was called the public cruise. The ship was clean and the staff very friendly. We left late from the dock about 5:17pm and went out into the harbor. Standard rum punch was served along with beer, water and soft drinks. The snack... More

As long term residents of Provo we have tried every charter company here. Many times. We ALWAYS end up coming back to Dave and his good ship! Always a great day out, very professional and always a good chilled out vibe. Today, on our way to the sublime Fort George Cay, we passed two boats from another charter company) who... More

Everything was nice and clean. Snorkeling equipment in great shape. If you are specifically wanting to sail, make sure you clarify that before you book it.

I am not one who enjoys the water, but the crew of this vessel made me feel like I was born to be on the seas. They were wonderful hosts for our seven (7) hour excursion. Our time at sea included simply cruising, lunch on an island beachfront, and snorkeling. (I passed on the snorkeling) With that said, you could... More

We were lucky enough to catch the last cruise before Captain Dave and his wife set off on vacation and it was a treat. The people aboard were lively and entertaining. It was a relaxing experience with music playing in background while the boat cut smoothly through the beautiful turquoise waters and the sun set on the horizon. I would... More
