The S/V ATABEYRA is a 69', traditionally rigged trading schooner that retired from cargo service almost 20 years ago. The vessel traded for years between Hispaniola and the Turks & Caicos Islands carrying such commodities as rum , beer, produce, plants, building materials and even a few critters. The ship has been refit as a charter vessel and now stays close to home in the sheltered waters of Grace Bay and the Caicos Cays of Turks and Caicos Islands. The S/V ATABEYRA is the perfect platform for learning hands on operation of traditional sailing craft, for exploring the exquisite undersea world and many islands that surround us or just lounging on her spacious, shaded decks. No vessel in the TCI charter fleet is as large or as versatile. Sun Charters and the ATABEYRA crew offer our guests a unique opportunity to get real sailing experience aboard the last of the tropical trading schooners. Being a gaff-rigged vessel carrying two headsails, there are lots of lines to pull, many sails to tend, and the skipper will even be happy to let you take the helm. Feel the past come alive as we sail through the uninhabited chain of Caicos Cays the same way it was done hundreds of years ago. The Cays were once the lair of the infamous lady pirates Anne Bonny and Mary Reid, and the waters and surrounding islands remain basically untouched since that time. The Crew of the Good Ship Atabeyra are proud that she is overwhelmingly the boat the residents choose when recreating in the Caicos Cays.

We took the glow worm cruise at TCI in April 2017 and thoroughly enjoyed it. The worms do their mating about the 3rd night after the full moon and glow a fluorescent green color in the water. Fascinating! The Atabeyra boat was nice, the sails were up, we cruised by Iguana Island, and were served a rum punch. No shoes... More

Atabeyra's crew is family at this point! Over and over we bring our guests back to enjoy the laid back feeling of the turquoise waters, the white beaches, and the quiet beauty of the string of Cays to the east of Provo. Thanks Junior, Willy and Capt Matt for always making us feel 'right at home'; your special treatment of... More

My husband, myself and our 2 teenage daughters just spent the afternoon aboard the Atabeyra for snorkeling and beach combing. It was a wonderful laid back day. This is not your typical touristy tour. Don't expect a slide or to "harvest" a conch (thank goodness). Do expect a great crew and a relaxed day. We went to Pine Key and... More

Wish I would have booked this 1st vs. the many more commercial options. Fantastic and safe snorkel trip, wonderful secluded cay for a visit, calm sail back.

We had a fabulous time on a half day snorkel and sail trip with Sun Charters! If you are looking for a fun and relaxing time aboard a true sail boat - this excursion is not to be missed. This is not the touristy experience of some of the other yellow boat snorkeling tours - but a truly memorable experience... More

I just spent a day on a really fun boat with amazing staff! They know the best spots to snorkel and swim. I felt relaxed and taken care of. I'd definitely recommend them.

We did the half day snorkel and sail and this was the highlight of my trip to Turks and Caicos! The boat was very clean and comfortable and there was plenty of sunny and shady spots to sit in. They provided rum lunch and a variety of beverages, chips and salsa, and you bring your own lunch. The snorkeling was... More

Our family loved sailing aboard the Atabeyra with its friendly crew. This former working schooner has lots of room and comfy bean bag chairs for guests. For the boaters out there, it's nice to be on a boat with some character - in contrast to the tour-focused power boats. We enjoyed both the glow worm tour and a half day... More

We took a half day snorkeling trip from 10am-2:30pm and had a blast! The boat and the crew (Captain Matt, Junior and Willy) were really nice, with great great service and smiles. We were a group of 5 friends and there were about 15 guests on the boat. It was not crowded at all and it was very comfortable. We... More

We had such an amazing time on the Friday evening sunset cruise! Highly recommend making this part of your trip. So enjoyed the sail, the views, and chatting with Jenny and the other guests. Can't wait to go back!
