St. Thomas has a lot of nice attractions but Mermaids Chair is the most incredible place on the island.

The beach is beautiful but as others have said it is such a long, long walk back up to the gate. Walking down is hard enough in the heat, carrying everything you need (there really is nothing there) but the return is something else. No where to rest, no shade, steeply up hill and white reflective concrete roads glaring back... More

The guard "warns" you of the 1.5 mile walk but it was an intense walk in the hot sun. The walk is on a paved sidewalk and road but the hills are the killers. Once you arrive it is worth it. It's amazing. We were able to be there low tide so we were able to walk between the two... More

We found out about this from our waiter one evening. Glad we did it. It is a tough walk, steep and hot, if you have physical problems. About 1.5 miles in and 1.5 miles out. Mostly hilly and paved. Very cool area where the Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean meet.

This was an absolutely gorgeous spot that we found at the end of our trip to St Thomas. It wasn't in any of our guidebooks and we wouldn't have known about it if not for a tip from a local. It is well worth the half-hour drive from town and subsequent short walk (~1.5 miles) to experience this beautiful location.... More

Awesome hike! Walk up is tough so be prepared. Beautiful scenery not a ton of beach but it's not a top beach it's where the Atlantic and carribean meet. Tons of cool rock formations! Beautiful!

Not the type of "hike" you need real shoes for. We took a one year old and five year old, ate a picnic and wandered for hours. The water was a bit choppy and felt so powerful. It was one of our most favorite days since we moved here a year ago.

The view is beautiful, but the hike can be tough, especially in the heat. I would highly suggest taking a lot of water and taking your time. The beach is nice, but the surf is rough. We hiked around the corner and found a trail to another secluded section that had some amazing coral and shells.

The housings at the area are not finished yet so there is not much people st the beach. Most likely the people amount will increase in coming years. Beach is gorgeus!!! I was there alone for several hours just enjoying the place. Even ok snorkling. Despite you have to watch out currents and waves while close to sharp rocks! Only... More

St. Thomas is pretty developed, with many beautiful places that you can expect to share with a number of fellow travelers. The trip to Mermaid's Chair is well worth it for those looking to visit a rugged and isolated part of the island. It's a long drive to this part of the island. You must park your car outside the...
