This is our 6th year going to St John and we have decided Francis Bay is one of the nicest beaches because it is calm water, never overly crowded and good snorkeling. There is a building with a few parking spaces there that has a trail, but if you continue down the gravel road, at the end is parking for... More

This was definitely our favorite beach on St. John. There is decent shade along the beach thanks to the nearby trees, but those interested in sitting in the sun can do so too. There are a few (maybe 5-6?) picnic tables for those who arrive early enough to get one. We also saw BBQ grills (maybe 2-3?), but never saw... More

We drove into Francis Bay several times during the week and it was packed. We decided to make it our first stop one morning and was not disappointed. Arrived before 10 AM and had great parking spot. This is a beautiful, calm beach with some wave action for the kids. The parking lot near the beach is very small but... More

We lived this beach with a hiking/birding trail and lovely secluded sandy shore. It has many trees so you can get out of the bright sun.. great snorkeling with lots of fish and sea turtles in gentle clear waters. Limited parking so come early

We arrived here around 10:00 a.m. and there was nobody in sight. There are a couple picnic tables, grills and outhouses. We snorkeled for about an hour. There is no coral and just a few fish near some areas with weeds to the North side of the beach. There were some huge schools of some sort of very small silver/translucent... More

Stunningly beautiful beach with wonderful snorkeling on both ends with turtles and rays in the grasses between. Long beach, so easy to walk to get a little privacy. Lots of shade under the trees. Picnic table available

The beach was excellent with white sand, turquoise and cristal clear water. The sea was very calm. We saw a few turtles, sting rays, and loads of fish. It was like being inside an acquarium, surrounded by schools of fish. The fish was colorful and the beach not crowded. There is not much in the way of facilities, but nature... More

Huge beach, lots of space to spread out, lots of pockets of shade. Calm water, ok snorkeling. Not too far from parking lot but small parking lot.

We had the best snorkeling in Francis Bay on St. John. Sting rays, shrimp, turtles, barracuda and even an eel were among some of the more unique things we saw. Can't wait to come back and bring the kids.

When Hawksnest, Oppenheimer and other beaches were being hit by the north rollers coming in and some strong current, Francis is the place to go. The water was so calm that it looked like glass. Snorkeling was easy. There are better coral formations on the island but Francis had turtles and rays and an abundance of colorful fish. On the... More
