If you like to walk beaches where yours are the only footprints then make the journey to Mayaguana. It is now serviced by Bahamasair from Nassau twice a week. But if you want to really up the adventure quotient you can do what I did and come in on the mailboat. The trip takes roughly 2 days from Nassau and... More

Mayaguana Island is one of the most beautiful of the Bahamas Out-Islands – pristine turquoise water, beautiful sandy beaches filled with conch shells, and a near-constant trade wind that keeps you cool regardless of the temperature outside. We stayed at Earnell “Shorty” Brown’s Baycaner Beach Resort, which he had constructed right at the beach near the settlement of Pirate’s Well... More

I just returned from a nice 2 day stay in Mayaguana (as part of an 18 day Bahamas Out Island vacation) where I stayed at the Baycanner Bay Resort. This is NOT the place you want to be if you desire nightlife, action, entertainment, etc. Just go to Nassau if you need that fix!! BUT........... Go here if you desire... More

Wow, there are amazing corals in the 2-3-4 foot deep range, 30 feet off the beach so even a 5 year old escorted by an adult can see coral structures which usually only exists in much deeper water ! I stayed for last week and just got back. I had a great time. Earnell saw to it that I had... More

We were a party of six who wanted to explore Mayaguana from a comfortable base - we found that Baycaneer Beach resort was the ideal hotel. Warmly welcomed by Shorty and his team we enjoyed 2 nights there. The rooms were large and comfortable and directly on a beautiful deserted beach. Shorty took us on a fun and personalised tour... I recently visited the island and had the most relaxing week of my life... I stayed with a local family in Abrahams Bay. The island is very quiet sparsely populated, the people are extremely friendly and go out of their way to see to it that you have a good time. The room was clean and inviting, breakfast was always... My wife and I visited Baycaner Beach Resort in the spring of 2008. We enjoyed the price, the cleanliness, the attentiveness of the staff, and the quality of fishing and beach combing. This is a laid back place with relatively few guests (when we stayed). We had an ocean front room that was directly on a nice sand beach. The... More

Our Family was there for a week and stayed at the Baycaner Resort. The resort was very nice, clean, and the staff was the friendliest we have seen on any island. Shorty drove us to all our excursions and was very informative about the things to see and do while on the island and arranged all of these for us.... More

Good for "alone time". Or at least at the side of the island where we were anchored at. Nice diving scenario as well.
