A unique 16th century castle in the Scottish Borders which has undergone a 2 year restoration project. In 2017 the castle is open from 2 May - 1 October every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday from 10am to 3pm (last admission) and offers castle tours and use of the grounds and children's play area. Thirlestane can also be used for weddings and events, along with holiday lets through use of the castle's luxury Lauderdale Apartment. This is the home of the Maitland family. The castle has a fine collection of paintings, furniture and porcelain. It is well worth a visit.

Went to thirlestane castle for the weekend beautiful gardens and castle with great walks 5mins from the town of lauder we took our motor home and stayed in there caravan park clean showers and toilets well recommended nice and quiet also dont drive past it...More

This is a very picturesque Scottish castle packed with history. Ancestral home of the Earls of Lauderdale. Inexpensive and well worth a visit if you're in the area.

Lots of rooms to go round. Impressive front as you arrive here. Spectacular ceiling plaster work in a number of rooms.Amazing how much can be suspended from the ceiling - intricate designs.Helpful guides in the rooms.

Yes there is plenty of parking for your motorhome while you visit the castle. There is also our Caravan Park if you would like to stay longer.
